Just joined..great discussions...anyway have pain deep in butt of operated side...stopped taking percs..only 1 at nite usually..3 weeks post op walking with a cane...going for walks around block. Also had slight femour fracture during surgery.
Hi Hope, you have not said age, mobility prior to THR or anterior/posterior but 3 weeks is early days and glutimus maximus (butt pain) is normal at this stage. You need to do your exercises but also rest, not over do things and listen to your body. I presume you sre following the 90 degree rule?, give it time and keep doing your pelvic floor/clenching buttocks. Best wishes, Dot.
Im 52..fairly good shape prior to thr..Im in Canada..my surgeon is very up to date..no restrictions ..except what body says..lol..Guess I'm impatient..Haven't gone for walks in so long try to overdo it.
You still need to keep your pain management going, not just at night time you need to take them during the day too
I had my THR following a serious accident, I have always been slim and fit as I have been training/riding highly bred horses to the highest competition level since childhood, I am slightly older than you. I still have my HPR's (gun dogs) and my horses so I know how frustrating it is, too be fair my injuries included 8 fractures of my pelvis as well as femur, hip etc, etc.
The most important thing is walking with correct posture, you dont want to be left with a limp, so take is easy and give your body time to heal. If you want to see what your body has been through look at THR on You tube.
Hi Hope ... oh, the pain in the butt !!! I was convinced there was something wrong with the hardware and argued with Physical Therapist who kept saying that it was/is the muscle ... she was right .... we do more and are impatient etc ...
like Dot says : try to keep doing your exercises, slowly -there is no gain in pain with THR ...
