I have pain in my wrist that alternates. Help?

I have had alternating wrist pain in both of my wrists for about three years now. It originally started with my right wrist, and after it faded away my left wrist started to hurt (about a month or two later). It only hurts to bend it, and when I went to a doctor I was given an ace bandage and nothing else (not even advice or a diagnosis).

My wrist will slowly start to hurt, getting worse and worse, until it reaches its peak (which is fairly painful) and then it slowly starts to get better. After that I seem to have a month or two of rest before the other wrist starts to hurt.

I was thinking it had to do with overuse possibly? My theory originally was that I have somewhat weak wrists and doing simple things like push-ups or holding a door open are hard on my wrist and I injure it. After I injure it, I start to do things with the other hand. I guess that would explain why it switches, but I really have no idea. It would be really helpful to have an idea of what could be wrong with it. I have gone to the doctor multiple times, and I haven’t ever seen my doctor concerned about it.

hi nina i am in same boat flare up there called if its arthritis which it sounds like to me has the doc not sent you for xray and blood tests you need some painkillers sorry to say but the ones i take seem to work for me if you are allowed i find ibuprofen works well  bad for tum for some   cortisone injection may help if its done for wrist                  nina go back to doc and ask for xray and blood to b done

It could be carpel tunnel ask your doctor.

Can you associate the pain with any specific type of activity?

I have various arthritic joints and for most of them the only effective relief is to keep moving. However, with the wrists I have obtained great comfort from the splints that an occupational therapist prescribed three or four years ago. The only problem is you do have to remember to put them on BEFORE starting work! The same OT offered a couple of sessions with a wax bath. This was such a comfort that I bought one to use at home.  I'll send the details via Private Message if you wish as trade names are probably not allowed on the open forum.

get CDS water purification chemical and DMSO at ebay, mix it 1/2/10 parts water (distilled is best). rub on as often as needed, pain will go away.

Hi BettyE! I wear my splints at night as my specialist said it would give more relieve during the day, I was sceptical but after eighteen months it has worked, I can do a couple of hours in the garden, dig all this I could not do before.
