I have PV and sometimes have rapid heartbeat, maybe caused by meds?

Hi, I was diagnosed with PV almost three years ago, and have had rapid heartbeat occasionally

since being on Hydroxyurea. Not sure, but feel that the Hydroxyurea may cause this.

Anyone else have this problem?

I cannot help as I am not on Hydroxyurea, and do not have rapid heartbeat

Harris,

I am on Hydroxyurea and have had PRV since 1993.

I haven't noticed any symptoms especially related to the meds and have not had a rapid heartbeat.

Is it a side effect mentioned with the drug? I haven't read the slip that it comes with for ages.

Nigel

I read online that one side effect may be rapid heartbeat. Saw a cardiologist last year. She had me do one of those treadmill tests, and I had a cardiogram, she said I was okay.

Guess I will just keep watching it. Had it yesterday, and not today. I will mention it next time I see my

Hematologist.

Thanks for your reply,

Harris22,

It's good to be self aware, but don't be overly alert and worry yourself with too many concerns.

I am quite laid back on the matter. Even when I had my liver transplants (that resulted from a blood clot caused by PRV) I was somewhat detached mentally from all the procedures before and after. I left the medicos to do what they had to do, it was my way I guess of coping with it all. Some might say that's irresponsible and not good. But whilst it's my body I don't know how it works in that much detail. Much like I hand my car to a mechanic to fix, I felt comfortable letting them do what they felt best for me. I will of course always be grateful for what they did and the donors who enabled it all to happen.

I also take hydrea and have had rapid heartbeat. Have been on treadmills and had echo cardiograms and also had dye put through my veins. All test were clear. Went and had a gastroscopy and am now taking somac tablets for a hiatus hernia. The somac has helped with the rapid heartbeat. I was getting tight in the chest and felt like I was having a heart attack.

Dianne

Hi Dianne,I am not sure if the Hydroxyurea is to blame. I also ate a bag of black licorice before it happened, but it had been about a week earlier. So not sure if I was that or not. I read online that the black licorice can cause rapid heartbeat. However, if I have te rapd heartbeat again, I will pay close attention to see what I've eaten, and ma have to go the doctor and try tests as you did.
