I just had Rectocele and Spincterplasty surgery 3 days ago. Will this pain ever go away??

Hi All,

I had rectocele and spincteroplasty surgery 3 days ago. I agreed to have this surgery thinking it was going to a walk in the park and I could go back to work after 5 days. I've had two children, a hysterectomy, neck surgery....but recovering from this is the most uncomfortable painful feeling ever. I am on pain meds but they offer minimal relief for only a few hours at a time. Warm baths do help - I take 3-4 baths a day. I have not had a BM yet. I am taking Miralax and a stool softener. I feel best when lying down on my side but walking hurts immensely! My husband has been taking care of me. Thank goodness because I am too uncomfortable to do anything!! Will this pain ever subside?

It will take time for the pain to settle; it has only been three days after your op which is very early days.  Persevere with the meds; you may need to be on them for while before you get the full benefit.  It will tell you on the label on the outside of your medication the dosage you doctor recommends and how long you shoud be on them.  Wait a week and if your pain gets worse and you still feel your meds are inadequate, conact your doctor for advice.

Poppa.....Thank you for your response!

Im sorry Pippa

Hope you start to get better soon.

Thank you- I actually began to feel better last evening. I just need to make sure I don't get constipated. Im going to get more stool softener today. Taken with the Miralax, that should get things moving - I hope! I think a big part of not being able to go is fear of straining eve just a bit and ripping my stitches open. I attempted to go this morning and there was a little blood. It made me a bit nervous. I just need to relax and take my time.

There may be excess blood from the surgery.  If you don’t have problems with fruit, you can also try that as an alternative to laxatives.  I find oranges very good for constipation.  My problem is IBS C.  Glad you’re feeling better.

Yes that's my problem too IBS C. I love oranges. In fact I just had an orange and an apple. I live fruit but Ive really been raving it the last few days and apple juice. I ventured out today but began to be uncomfortable with all the walking so we went home early. I messaged my boss to get another day off so I would go back to work on Wednesday. He was absolutely ok with that.

That sounds good you’re beginning to feel better.
