but I am almost 4 weeks post op and today I have done what was my normal Saturday morning trip (before my hip gave up on me) going to market in nearby town, one or two shops and coffee. I managed it but felt so tired and no energy now feel like I have done a days physical work. I am 69 any hope for me? Tks.
Well done Sue!
I'm 3 weeks on Wednesday (46 years old) and can't imagine being able to do this next week yet! Go you!

I am 3 weeks post op and have spent a very similar Saturday morning to you. It was my first time of going out with a walking stick rather than a crutch and I was out for about an hour and a half in total, including coffee break. Like you, I was pretty tired when I got home and glad to sit down for an hour on my comfy "throne" before rousing myself to do a set of exercises. Having had some lunch, I have now come up onto the bed for an hour of proper rest. Am planning on walking (about 10 minutes)to the pub this evening for an hour of social time with friends. I reckon we are doing pretty well when you consider what has been done to us! And Fiona, this time last week I wouldn't have attempted to do any of this, so keep walking and doing the exercises and it will come!
Well done Sue it will take time but you will get there I am also 69 so guess how it is had my hip 11 months still got couple of issues being sorted but overall feel good.

Don't be so hard on yourself Sue, four weeks is early days. You're bound to get tired after all if replacement is a big operation and takes a lot out of you. As an retired nurse I can tell you without any operation takes it out of you. I had my second THR in January and it took me about six weeks before I was back on my feet and coffee are more weeks before I was pain-free and as active as I had been before the operation.
Thanks Steph,
I've been walking loads, but mostly just in the street outside my house, you're right though, things do improve with every week. Enjoy the pub!

That's brilliant Sue, I was no where near that stage at 4 weeks, I'm 54yrs old. Your doing really well. It will take it out of you. I'm 13 weeks, got my energy back but started back at work and now my energy has hit rock bottom again, but it will come right as yours will, stick in there.
Hi Sue
I was 4 weeks last Wednesday and went to the shops, coffee for4 hours using 1 crutch , not all walking though, although last half an hour it was starting to hurt. I think I was okay because i was doing something and not concentrating on my walking all the time but the next day my leg felt a lot stronger, so it did me a lot of good so maybe you might feel the same tomorrow
Bravo Sue!
I don't think it is strictly the physical exertion ... I still feel nervous in crowds and about getting jostled so find myself bracing without realizing it.
And you are still fairly early in recovery .. this was a serious operation.
I think that the length and difficulties expected after this surgery - perhaps to avoid scaring us off. So it all seems more challenging. I certainly expected to be further along than I am (not complaining - just realizing that the levels of recovery are more complicated than I realized).
I think you are doing brilliantly and should be very proud of managing this outing. Nothing wrong (and everything right) with a wee rest once in a while!
Big hug,
L
hi Sue,
I echo previous comments. ..you did very well. ..probably a bit too much. ..
healing takes a lot of energy and so much healing is going on on all levels , darling. ..
.
tender loving care tomorrow for sue. ..
well done
big warm hug

I think that's great Sue, at 4 weeks I too needed to rest after meeting friends for coffee and walking a short distance. I'm 10 weeks post op now and I've been out test riding electric bikes for two hours, they're brilliant! I am feeling it now though and intend to have a little nap (I'm 53)
Lots of hope Sue. That's brilliant at 4 weeks.
Getting your energy back is I think the last thing. I'm 67, pain free at 11 weeks but find everything so exhausting.

Hi Sue, I am glad you are doing so well. For me, I still get tired after being out for a few hours. I come home and rest. I am 9 weeks post op and I have been told that my body is working hard to heal in ways that I can't see. Naturally that will take a lot of energy as healing does. I always feel that we should honor the process. It takes time, the best way to prevent any concerns is to honor the healing process and the time that it takes.. so .. just take a nice comfy nap
Sue, the energy drain from THR is real. I think it was a good 12 weeks before I stopped feeling exhausted all the time. I am 68, and I can tell you that there IS hope for you. Just give it another month or two and you will be feeling much better.
Hi Sue! Poor you! I think all you can do is just take a day at a time.I was over the 6 weeks recovery! but we are all different.Regards Amanda
