The heart rate monitors at the gym, says 175bpm, my maximum heart rate is 197, according to these websites. People say I should be working at 50-85% of maximum heart rate... that's like What? 150 bpm? I don't feel like im doing anything with that heart beat! I worked hard today, and my heart rate was between 170 and 180. I was sweating, but could keep a conversation. My heart rate was high though! At 150, I didn't feel anything. How can I enjoy basketball game, and soccer, or climbing rocks, if I have to keep my heart rate at 197 without me dying!? You know how tired I get when I play BALL? Like sweating, and deep breathing, and can't even breathe, but I'm having fun and loving it! Can I not enjoy basketball Anymore? Life is messed up man! I don't know, but I think my heart rate must be extremely high during basketball or lifting weights... now I gotta worry about keeping my rate low? Are YOU SERIOUS? What a boring LIFE!
Your max heart rate is 220 minus your age. So if I’m 20 my max heart rate is 200 and 85% if that is 170. Keeping your heart rate within 80% of your max is what’s deemed to be acceptable to maintain a healthy heart and body. If you wanna push it further, by all means go ahead.
Is that formula really accurate?
Yup.
It's a universal figure. It's used in health and in medicine for things like stress tests and VO2 max tests and overall targets.
Once a patient can reach their max heart rate, the test is finished.
