I've had progressive BPH symptoms for the last year and a half. I seem to have a bit more retention. Though I am not taking any medication for it. I am trying to every holistic method I can find.
I am confused, Would my condition progressively get worse. In other words would the prostate grow and grow until it grows into the bladder or completely cuts off the urethra?
Good morning. The prostate will grow for the rest of your life even if you have a procedure. But some men have a slow grow and others have fast. That is why some men have to have more procedures over the years. Read up on it there are some good information on the internet. Have a grate day ken
I just had an appointment with uro, and during conversation the same subject came up. He said that prostate mostly grows between age 50 to 70 and then it does not change much after that. I was asking a question because I am almost 70, can manage symptoms with medication at the moment (0.2mg Tamsulosin) but if the prostate will grow, then I would rather have procedure now then when I am much older. His thoughts were that I should not worry about growth any more and unless there is any other reason (PC) not to have any surgery.
In short yes. The prostate is like weed and keeps on growing. Mine got to 135 grms but we have had reports of ones over 300grms.
Not in my case. I had GL when I was 69 when my prostate was 75grms and again when I was 78 and it had regrown to 135grms.
Your growth will depend on what you do, what you eat, how you defecate/pee (position), and even breath.

Ans:yes , but not everyone has a large medium lobe that grow into the bladder. regardless, the BPH overgrown tissue will constrict the urethra, which will progressively become narrower overtime, eventually completely blocked if not treated. If left untreated, the bladder could be damaged due to it has to generate larger and larger pressure to force the urine out. The homone tells the prostate keep growing.

the notion that it took 69years to grow to 75 g, it should take another 69 years for the prostate to grow anohter 75g is incorrect. At old age, the hormone production seems to increase and as a result the prostate grow rate increases.

just wondering,,after GL treatment, did u take e drug to counter or slow down the grow?
The scientific approach to alleviate ur concern is
1) find a good urologist who is cAring and one whom u could trust
2) do a 3D ultrasound of the prostate (TRUS ) to determine the size and medium lobe situation
3) do a cystoscopy and let your uro look at ur prostatic urethra and bladder to examin how serious is the blockage and whether the bladder has suffered any damAge
4) with the above results, u will be at a better position to decide whT to do next.
i would not believe any miracle cure. Believe in science and trust trial results would be my recommendation.

That sounds very unlikely. Perhaps diet has an influence but Hormones are the answer
I didn't take anything after the first procedure but had taken Saw Palmetto for most of the ten years before. After the second procedure the Uro suggested taking Avodart to prevent regrowth. I said at my age will it have enough time to need a third procedure. He glanced at my age on his screen and said 'Perhaps not'

Derek Does give a lot of good information. He has been through a lot with his prostate. I think 3 procedure. I read up on the prostate. They have been trying to figure out why it grows faster in some men then others. It has something to do with one of the hormones. They said it has something to do like when we start puberty and the prostate grows and then stops but it starts up again at 40. They will be working on that for the rest of our lives. Only time will till. I wish they could figure it out. It would help a lot of men and stop some from having repeat procedure. Take care all Ken

Hi, thanks for that. Other than surgery would the only way to stop the prostate from growing would it be medication like Tamsulosin? I find the the side effects of taking these drugs is not tolerable. However Tamsulosin does seem to help with the bpH symptoms when I have tried it. So I really don't want to use medication.
I asked for meds from the uro today, and she refused, saying Prosca(sp?) "takes months" to work.
What we need is a thread of all the information on how to shrink the Prostate, without surgery, and without the slow-acting meds. Is there such a thread already?
The only way to stop it from growing is to have it taking out all together but that comes with it own problem. What you need to do is try something for a year and see if your prostate grows. You may be the type that it grows slow. A lot of things you can try to stop it But we never know. Ken
Proscar, or it's generic Finasteride, generally takes months to work to it's full potential. Some people felt it's effectiveness after just a few weeks. However, it comes with potentially some serious sexual side effects. Hank
Bob Before you take any of the meds that a doctor will give you. ( And I would get a new urologist. ) Instead of saying to you why don't we try something natural first to see if that will help you. That was wrong for her to do that. There are many things out there that you can try From Zinc, Saw Palmetto, Lycopene and a few others. But there are no fax that it will make the prostate shrink but it will help with the symptoms. Saw Palmetto is very popular in Europe. Like you said to Johnny It does depend on what you eat and drink. I have been following a diet from my doctor for you. It is 8 pages. It tells you what you should stay away from what you can have and what you can try. There are a lot of things that we eat and drink that irritates the bladder.
