This has been incredibly depressing for me. I have lived with chronic constipation for my entire life and LITERALLY don’t defecate at all for at least 30+ whole days, so basically only once a month, every month, for my entire life. With the amount of “how are you not dead?” comments I’ve seen from other forums about people that haven’t been for 7 days… I honestly don’t know how I live.
It might be genetic as my mother and youngest sister have a lesser form. My half-brother also used to have chronic constipation but he grew out of it. I rarely bloat or release gas that much which is rather odd as my family does. I bloat a little bit but it’s practically not noticeable with clothing nowadays; it did used to be worse.
I get agony all of the time and when that time of the month comes, sometimes I would literally have tremors because of the sheer pain of pushing anything out. I soil almost constantly every day for around a week or two before I have the toilet properly. There has been no blood that I can recall coming from there.
Medicines have never helped at all and have just made this experience even more hopeless and painful. I have tried many laxatives prescribed and nothing has worked, and all intolerance tests came out negative. I take a high dose of Senna every now and then which is a stool softener, and I think that makes some progress, but it’s still a really long time to not defecate and causes so much unneeded abdominal pain.
I’m pretty sure it must be because of stress and my poor diet at my parent’s house. At university, the bowel movements have gone down to two weeks on average, which is still absolutely terrible but it sounds like amazing progress to me that I never thought I’d see in my life. Now I’m back at home due to COVID, it’s been 28 days since I last had the toilet properly so I’m assuming it’ll be in a week that I have the toilet next, and yes I’ll wish death upon myself for having to remove that massive one. I really do not want a colostomy bag.
If you didn’t live with me you’d think I was perfectly healthy. I’m really good at hiding my symptoms when I can.
It is all blocked up in the lower part of my gut. I’m pretty sure it is either IBS or IBD but it could be something else entirely or multiple, which could be easily diagnosed just by feeling my belly, but as I have no doctor to go to at this moment and the one I had before didn’t do a single thing, I cannot say whether some other things are related to my bowels or not e.g. faintness.
Feel free to ask any more questions because I feel really hopeless, and if anyone can help with advice for natural remedies or something that’ll at least reduce it to once a week and less pain, more appetite, and less tiredness, then I’ll be a happy woman. Even if surgery could help and I definitely cannot afford it, I’ll take it as long as I can live a normal life for once.
