Hi all....I apologize in advance for this post as it's gonna be a "gripe" session as opposed to pnr/gca related. Sorry! For the past several days I've been receiving notifications in "dribbles" (2 or 3 every few hours). Today...I got SLAMMED with over 40 all at one time! while trying to respond, I started realizing that every time I'd post, they were all being placed sorta randomly and out of order as to how I was answering them. I wrote them and EVEN I couldn't make sense out of them!šµ I'm concerned when some folks read them, I may sound a bit of a "lunatic"! my question is...is anyone else as "fed-up" and exhausted as I, and what can we do about it?? I don't want to leave this forum as the advice/education I've received has proven to be invaluable....also, I thoroughly enjoy so MANY of you....but truth be told...I'm exhausted!!! Any thoughts??
Just calm down and donāt worry about reading or replying to every comment - it isnāt expected by anyone I promise. Those of us who have been on the forum for a long time take it as it comes and if we canāt get to everything we donāt worry about it. Some people don;t even read every thread - they look at the first post and decide if they are interested in it and follow it if they are. Otherwise they ignore it.
The more comments you (or anyone else) make, the more there is to bother about. Just read and gather what you need from it - that is the point. You donāt have to think you have to help everyone, you just take and give what you can. Instead of replying to every comment, save it up and write one comment that all of us will read and take from it what we require. That then slows down the thread and makes it easier for everyone else as well.
Donāt spend all day on the forum - just choose a time that is good for you and sit down with a drink and look at what came in since the last time. If you just look a couple of times a day you will read a whole thread maybe at one go - and then can make YOUR comment as one substantial reply instead of a dozen bitty ones. Until you follow a thread you only get the notification it has been started and you will have like a chapter of a book to read. The reason your posts seem out of order is because of the nesting - and if you only reply to the original poster it wonāt be as complicated but everyone will see it if they need/want to and their replies to you will also be less confusing.
I think we just need to be patient. The moderator says they are aware of the problems and the techies are working on it. We donāt know what goes on behind the scenes. This may be a huge site being run by only a small handful of people. I donāt know. Whatās happened is probably unintended consequences caused by them not understanding exactly how people use the forum. I believe the PMR forum is the busiest and we do use the forum more and in a different way than others. If they can fix it to make us happy then theyāll have solved problems for everyone!
thank-you Anhaga. Iām really not āblamingā anyoneā¦Iām well aware āstuff happensā!
just venting some frustrationā¦![]()
Iām hanginā inā¦this forum is too valuable ti me!
Yes, I have lots of thoughts, some the same as yours and many that are unprintable.
I just squeaked in to IT when computers came into schools just before I retired and all Iāve kept up with is enough to enable me to use the bits I want; I have no basic knowledge how it works.
Our protests and complaints get sympathetic answers from the EMIS moderator but I donāt think we can hold him responsible for all the problems; heās there to make sure we donāt misbehave. So who is next up or down the line? Who actually sets the pattern and do he/she/they have any idea of the purpose of a forum like this. ?
I and others have several time pointed out that we used to be able to click on the latest post in a thread and then up would come all the previous ones in that thread that we had not previously read and then we could mark them all as read and move on to the next thread. That worked fine. Now, as you say, we are in danger of running out of time/ strength/ will to live and missing posts we would have wanted to read.
Is there someone out there that could communicate this to whoever has inflicted the present set up on us?
Eileenās answer to you is good if you can do it. I canāt. I guess that is a personality problem. I hate the idea of missing out on something I would have liked to know.
Thank you. You have just described my thoughts perfectly.
I just read a few at a time and delete the ones I have read. Only read what you feel like Lynda , you can only be available when you are up to it, answering so many would not be fun at all.
Donāt forget itās a forum not a job and we are all aware now.
I suppose it would happen like that at times, there did seem to be a lot today.
I have learned heaps from you so donāt leave.
Not sure where you live or what time it is there, Iām in Sydney Australia, itās 10.55pm Monday 29th, depending on where we are all come from could be the reason everything is clogging up on internet ?

Hi Vickiā¦so happy to hear from you! Iām in the USA (California, to be precise) and itās now 5:32am here. Iāve been up ALL night _Ughhh)ā¦one of those LONG, sleepless nights
!
thereās so much going on here (politically)ā¦itās very difficult to sleep! hopefully after the mid-term elections, 11/6, things will settle downā¦not holding my breath tho!![]()
thx for your jind words. I appreciate them!
Hi Lynda/all,
Points raised on this discussion:
Emails - we send notification emails out as they are generated. They can be queued our end for up to 15 mins I believe and go out as a ābatchā. Once they are sent any āoddā behaviour will be down to your email provider and is beyond our control. Your notifications page is in the correct reverse date/time order so most recent notifications will be at the top. As posted in several discussions, I am aware of all of the issues about that page and am in the process of pushing for fixes to be released to sort these.
There have also been quite a few users lately who were not receiving emails. I have replied to everyone who reported this issue as it should now be resolved.
Ordering of posts - the posts are not placed ārandomlyā. If you reply directly to the original discussion post your reply will be put at the bottom of the whole thread. If you reply in one of the ānestedā threads your post will go to the bottom of that particular nested thread. If you reply to several posts or users within a nested thread ALL of your replies will go to the bottom of that particular nested thread. Each post has the posters name > username to whom the reply is directed. I know this is not ideal but if we placed every reply directly under the post being replied to we would end up with a system of having many layers of ānestedā replies. To help matters I have asked for future development so that each reply in a nested thread has an icon on it so when you click it you will be taken back to the post you replied to. This is for example, if you read a post quite far down the thread and want to see the relevance to the discussion, instead of āguessingā which post the reply is relevant to if it is not obvious you just click the icon on the reply.
Communicating problems - I am the main channel for feeding back all/any issues to the people who need to know. I have asked before but it would make life a lot easier for all of you if new discussions were not started for very similar issues or any new site issues. All this does is result in the group having a lot of discussions with the same points and replies from me which results in even more notifications/emails.
I am following all of the discussions about the problems so if there are any new issues can you please reply in one of those and not start a new discussion. The original feedback discussion was this one so post in there if you do have any more feedback. https://patient.info/forums/discuss/do-not-like-new-formatā681481
If you want to contact me directly via Private Message then my profile page is here where you can send me a message. You can also use the āReportā link on any post to let us know of any issues. https://patient.info/forums/profiles/emis_moderator-18625
I have noted and forwarded all of the feedback about the update from all of the discussions so everything is in hand along with several suggestions from myself to improve things. I have been around for a long time now so understand all of the issues. There will also be an FAQ which I have been chasing up. This will be about the site generally but also troubleshooting FAQs.
Hope this helps but feel free to let me know of any other new issues.
Regards,
Alan
Budget Day here Lynda ( UK )Iām not holding my breath either.
No petrol tax rise and no booze tax rise!!
No more PFI - is that right? Worth the agony for that alone.
ptolemy - thought wine didnāt get a mention? Your bubbles will go up ā¦
Thatās right, Eileen. No more PFI funding.
Hallelujah! Just 25+ years too lateā¦
Tell me. Should never have happened in the first place.
thank you Alan for your lengthy/informative response! I assure you, itās very much appreciated!
I think itās JUST meā¦alas, Iām not as tech savvy as Iād like to think. Considering I live in the heart of Silicon valley, USA, thatās really pitifulā
.
In any case, Iāll continue to āmuddleā through and try to figure things out as I go!
again, thanks so much!
Too late, it has happened!! I donāt think anyone in their right mind would try it again anyway so he really is just pandering to the people.
Well, āevery little helpsā, as someone has said.
Thatās the trouble with democracy; it assume the people know whatās good for them. And the trouble with politicians is that they have little idea about people just how to manipulate them. Cheers!
