I was just diagnosed with emphysema almost 3 months ago. I was never a heavy smoker; only socially off and on and quit 12 years ago because I wanted to see my grandchildren grow up!! I am 72 years old, however I truly feel that I have had it for the last 7 years, as I was wheezing then! It took dizziness and blood oxy level of 73 to get me to the doctor. After EKG and CT scan, I received the diagnosis. I was at Level 2, when I was diagnosed. I am on Spiriva, Advair, and 2.5 oxygen ONLY during the night. Of course, initially I was scared; however, like many others say "I have COPD, COPD doesn't have me". I have developed a positive attitude, my husband and I walk 2 to 3 miles every day, I drink lots of water with lemon. I have more energy since I have actually been diagnosed and am more conscientious about my diet. I am determined to live to 95 like my sweet Mother did. I truly feel that walking has helped me a LOT. I noticed in someone else's discussion they suggested oil or oregano - I ALWAYS take that at the first sign of a cold and it seems to stop it immediately. My heart goes out to all of you that are further down the road.
