Earlier this year I was diagnosed with HSV2 during my first outbreak and that was the worst pain of my life. I had always had HSV1 and so did my long term boyfriend so I probably contracted it through oral sex from him but I’m not as upset over that. It was the pain from peeing and walking. It burned so bad I could barely breathe. It took me 15 mins to go and then when I was done, I felt like I had to go again. I went to the Drs a few days after I noticed a few lesions and they prescribed Valacyclovir 1000mg twice a day. I just went ahead and took it every 6 hours the first day then I did every 8 hours for 2 days, and on day 3, I did the every 12 hours. That seemed to help tremendously. I looked up the max daily dose on the FDA page and some people are prescribed 4000mg a day for this particular medication so that’s why I doubled up the first day. I also bought a squirt water bottle so when I went pee I could squirt warm water and that helped a lot. It still stung some and I’d take the TP and just dab where it comes out or hold onto the clitoris with TP til the sting when away. Then I’d use the hair dryer on cool high which helped with drying hunched over a large hand mirror. During the day when I was awake, I did zinc oxide 40% and at bedtime, I’d use petroleum Vaseline jelly and always baby powder with a fresh panty liner every time I went to the restroom. I’d squat right over the mirror to apply. Remember, no double dipping. I also had lidocaine 5% spray which I got right on amazon (Passion brand is what I got). Sometimes I’d spray my vagina and wait about 1-2 mins before peeing. And always lean forward as much as you can do it doesn’t dribble down the vagina lips.
If you have to go to work, that’s the best regimen I could think of but if you’re lucky enough to stay home, I made a warm bath with episode salt and baking powder mixed with tea tree and lavender essential oil and olive oil and sat in that once a day. Took about 5 days to pee without sting and 7-10 days for lesions to heal and disappear.
For me, nothing else worked. I bought DMSO cream to mix with oregano oil to use as maintenance cream on my vagina 3 days a month, Zinc Sulfate 50mg daily, Vitamin C 1000mg daily, And Valacyclovir 1000mg daily and hopefully never have this outbreak again. When I just had HSV1, I’d do the Zinc Sulfate, Vit C, And Lysine 1000mg a day and I didn’t have an outbreak for 12 years. But studies had shown that Lysine DOES NOT help with HSV2 at all and since I’m taking the Valacyclovir now, it will cover both HSV1 and HSV2 outbreaks. I’ve not had any outbreaks since January following my regimen.
I hope someone else can use this regimen and it helps them. Or use what works for you. This worked for me. Remember, you don’t have to tell anyone. Just always use condoms, keep maintenance up, and women are more likely to get HSV2 from a male partner than vice versa, but if your partner cares about you, then they will be understanding when you talk to them. No one else has to know except you, the dr, the pharmacist and your partner.
