I'm a 21-year-old male of Indian origin. For the past few months, I’ve had a very tiny black dot on the head of my penis, near the top and slightly to the left from my view looking down. The dot is black/brown in color and extremely small (probably less than 1 mm across). It’s been the same size for the entire time I’ve had it. It is completely flat and doesn't portrude from the skin. I initially didn’t think much of it and based on a quick Google search, I thought it was something called melanosis, which is a slight discoloration of the penis. I have brown skin and read that penile melanosis was relatively common among dark skinned people. But, I still have it and now I’m worried that it could be something much worse, like cancer. I've also observed the same kinds of spots on my scrotum. I’m uncircumcised, but I have good hygiene. I shower everyday and pull my foreskin back and clean my penis when I do so. Here’s the photo of the spot (NSFW): https://imgur.com/a/G0nAcfd I’d love to know if this is something I need to worry about. Thanks so much!
These could be quite a common issue for males from your ethnic background - however, the safest thing to do is to get them checked by a medical professional. You do not want to find that you have something that should have received an early treatment as possible if you wait for a number of months or years to get them checked.
Doctors are quite happy to give reassurance with anything like this - so best to be safe now rather than the potential to be worried in the extreme later in life. If you are in the UK make an appointment at your GP Practice, go to any Sexual Health Service, or a GUM Clinic at your Local General Hospital …
