Well here I am. Found myself after op in recovery in agony for some reason. They were pumping Morphine into me like there was no tomorrow......
they decided to transfer me to the private hospital for the night, to get pain meds under control.
SO I am doped to the eyeballs.....excuse any typo's in this post.
i have had some food and a cuppa. They have me on Panadol 4 hourly, Targin slow release at night and Endone if I need topping up. Hence im in the right place 😀. I did expect lots of pain for the first week.....the severity just surprised me. But in saying that there were two others in recovery who had shoulder ops different to mine and they seemed to be doing much better than me. Mine was re attaching tendon to bone as well as frozen shoulder. Anyway guys.....so tired, just wanted to touch base 😘❌❌❌❌
ile keep my fingers crossed for you , but im sure theres no need cos its gonna be a success :-)
glad its all over, now to rest and let your body heal, get well soon best wishes,,,, hope mine isnt gonna be too much longer, x
Well done! The hard part is over. Get your pain meds in order and don't suffer in silence. It took me 4 days to sort dosage etc. don't compare yourself to anyone else...I did that and saw others waving their arms in the air....that took me months.
Don't over do it. Relax, rehydrate and rehabilitate.
Everyone is different and everyone had a slightly different op and different starting point. Some are completely frozen, others suffering impingement. You are you, so chill and be looked after xx
Well said Ali couldn't agree more
Yayyyyyyyy!!!!!! Everyone has said everything!!
Lots lots of love and extremely gentle cuddles.
Rest. Xxxx😘
So glad you are out the other side Kerri, I am impressed you are able to type and string a sentence together! Yes pain is awful at the start, but as the others have said, take what meds you need to get through it, we are all different and recover at a different rate.
Have a good rest..........let us know how you get on when you are up to it.
Sleep well!
ooh Kerri, so good to hear from you, you were the first person I thought of today when I remember it's Friday!!!! (here anyway). Sounds as if you had similar in recovery to me, they will get it under control very quickly and keep on the pain control as they recommend on discharge. You are through the worst and thought it doesn't feel ike it at the moment, on the road to recovery, the pain will now change and ease. Sending love and hugs, Mandy xxx
Hi Mandy, how many days post op are you now? What is your pain now like?? Can you tie your hair up now? Awww I'm sorry for all the questions and being such a boring pest - I'm so desperate for improvement!...........
Such fab news about Kerri
xx
Hi Linda, I had surgery on the 12th so just over the 2 weeks, I had an overnight stay unplanned, bit like Kerri as pain control had to be sorted, but it was all ok and the surgery went well. I am glad though that I read more about it on here before hand and knew not to expect an instant miracle as the surgeon said lol. However, THAT FZ pain has gone and the pain I have I feel is related to the surgery and muscle usage now with physio etc, The last 2 days it has been more sore but to be honest I have been far more active around the house again. I am going back to work on Monday, part time only initially and to be honest could do with longer (there's no pressure to return) but feel I want to give it a go, I've been off now over 9 weeks. I am continuing to take my full codeine dosage and topped with ibroprofen. I can tie my hair up tidier than before but it's not a straight ponytail yet. I still have difficulty washing but manage but dressing and the 'pulling on' movement of jeans etc is still very difficult. Sleeping is better but still not without pain, I sleep 'hugging' a pillow and still cannot lie on the wonky shoulder. I have driven twice now on very short journeys, I'd be considered safe but I couldn't manage a longer journey and do wonder if I will manage daily next week for work but can get transport. How are you doing yourself Linda? xxx
You haven't given yourself very long post operatively before returning to work, if you don't mind me saying. It's usually 6-8 weeks. Be careful. X
I know what you mean Ali and I've wondered myself but the instructions from surgeon were 'when you felt able' - same with driving. It was keyhole surgery I had and no sling or anything now, only for the first 24 hours. I'm glad I have the option to go back part time first of all though and I want to give it a go, I'm anxious about returning after being such a hermit and worry that anxiousness will get worse if I don't try. I know I couldn't manage full time straight back. I must admit had the post op instructions been clearer I wouldn't have hesitated to stay off, might have been easier and felt less guilty. I'm going to be really strict with myself though and my hours and any twinges won't hesitate to rest. I have my review with the surgeon on the 22nd April, 6 weeks post surgery and he hadn't expected me to be off all that while. xx
Good luck, I know what you mean about 'when you're able'. Good luck.
I suppose I'm thinking about my op. Op 1 keyhole didn't work first time- still frozen! Op 2 was manipulation under anaesthetic....that did the trick. Much better now and hardly any discomfort...apart from physio day! Ooooo, the muscle under my collar bone does not want to budge. Im returning to work after 6 months off. I completely understand your 'hermit anxiousness'. I'm left handed, left fs and a teacher! Writing on the board will be interesting!
Mandy.....which op did you have?
Mine was keyhole surgery but I'm in a sling for 6 looooong weeks
mine was a full thickness tear in rotator cuff 😳
Morning Mandy, So pleased things are moving in the right way for you! I know everyone is different and healing does take time - its just so frustrating! I'm almost 7 weeks post op & still very limited to what I can do. The pain has eased and as you say the horrid FS pain disappeared - I'm still taking ibrufen and co codamol 30/500mgs they are a godsend especially at night!
I wish I had found this site before my op - I did expect to bounce back quickly & I'm quite dissapointed that I haven't!!!!! Think I'll be like Ali and end up going back to theatre for further manipulation........
Good luck with work & yes be sensible
Hugs xxx
Oh Linda it is a loooong recovery time on these shoulder ops. A friend of mine had exactly the same op as mine 12 months ago and while she is pain free she still dosnt have full range. I sure hope I don't have to return to surgery 😩
Kerrie, you don't realise how important your shoulders are untill you have a problem with them - we just take them for granted!!! Never agin though! I'm certainly going to look after them from now on!!!
I'm sure your surgery has been a sucess huni
Take it easy and rest as much as you can - it helps with the healing process......... Much love xxxxx
Awww Ali I think I will need further manipulation - had same op as you by the sounds of it.............. Seeing consultant next thursday & he said he will decide then. Still doing physio excersises but not getting very far
I'm almost 7 weeks post op...........
I agree Linda....you don't realise how much your shoulders move in just about everything you do until it is agony to do so. Your shoulders move when you breath, when you walk, bumps in the road, just sitting up in bed.....there I go whinging again 😩
