Getting even more nervous now, less than 2 weeks to go until my hysto and anterior repair. Did anyone have anymore done than they were told they were having? I have a grade 1 rectocele that is starting to give me a bit of trouble. Will my surgeon repair it at the same time if he finds I need it fixing? I'd hate to go through another long recovery. Has this happened to anyone? My op is being done at a private hospital but through the NHS. I'm wondering if I should send an email to the hospital about my concerns.
Hi Rosie, my surgeon explained that if they discovered anything else whilst doing the op they would just sort it. So my consent form had lots of and hysterectomy etc on it to cover all eventualities.
Hope that helps
Hi. I had my repair done 14 weeks ago. I had a definite bladder prolapse and a partial rectal prolapse. My consent form said anterior repair, rectal repair and hysterectomy. When under the anaesthetic they can tell more about what needs doing so all I needed was a anterior repair in the end.
Hi I have recently had vaginal hysterectomy, post & ant repair done also at a private hospital (in Nottinghamshire)
As the other ladies have said, you have to give consent prior to anything he is intending on doing so while you are in theatre they can have a good luck and assess what needs doing.
You will get chance to speak to your surgeon on the day of admission so I'd ask him. I was a little worried about waking up and finding out what had actually been done as on my consent form it said, vaginal hyserecting +/- post & ant repair. Both were significant so he did all 3, I stressed prior to surgery I would prefer that as like you say you do not want to be back there further down the line having another op. I think if your rectocele is giving you trouble these things only tend to get worse so he will prob repair it anyway, but I would ask just to double check.
Good luck with your operation and recovery xxxx
Hi Jill I am 5 weeks post op of a and p repair at a private hospital in Notts too he was possibly going to do a hysterectomy but didn't need to I stressed too. I am struggling with BM's as dearnt strain I am going to my GPs tomorrow to discuss laxatives as it really gets me down I can be 1 and quarter hours waiting for a bm knowing I need to go but it is not quick. I take two Senna at night which seemed to help but not enough now I am sore around my vagina too which sometimes feels like thrush how about u? X
Hi Diane, sounds like we had our ops around the same time (5th Feb)?
I had a terrible time with trapped wind and BM early on, started using lactulose straight away and it has been a god send. I intend to carry on using it for a few more weeks.
You can buy from chemist without prescription but if seeing your GP I'd ask him/her.
Re:thrush, yes I have also had this, went to doctors Friday and be gave me canesten HC cream which relived it within 24 hours. I think I was sore from wearing a pad/bleeding.
Are you still resting quite a lot? Although I still feel really tired especially in the afternoon I have the last few days started to walk around a mile each a.m just to try and build my strength back up. Managed fine but do still feel like I have a lot of swelling inside!!!! I used to cycle quite a bit before op, think it will be a while before back on bike seat again 😳
Hope you get sorted at docs tomorrow and feel better soon xxxx
I am due to go to doctors tomorrow with suspected prolapse i dont know much about it tbh my symptoms are awful i have been in agony all weekend only on my left side shooting pains up me and pains in my thighs and then i rang 111 and they said this it does seem right because sinve then i am really finding it hard pass urine and feel bursting all the time any info would be great and how long did u wait for ur appt and what happens inbetween coz surely they cant leave someone like this its awful feel like i have a baby on my bladder (i have 4) but i deffinetly havent lol helllllp!!!! X
Hi Jill
yes still ill resting walked my puppy first time today I did line dancing the gym and yoga before I keep thinking don't know how long to leave the gym and yoga I didn't have a general anaesthetic so not feelin too tired I had an epidural and sedative which hospital did you go to? X
That's great. I'm not so worried about the hysterectomy, it's the repair that scares me. Matron has really helped put my mind at ease but I still get a bit panicky every now and then.
hi
be strong with your gp write down everything you want to say so that you don't forget anything before you go all your symptoms etc He may do an internal to see what is going on for you I had some medication to calm my bladder down let us know how you go on Joanne X
I'm hoping I won't need to have the rectocele repair because I've read it's a lot more painful but if it needs doing I'd rather have it done. Would it be possibleasier to send you a private message? I have a question that's very personal and graphic. Please don't worry if not, I totally understand.
Thank you. I will definitely ask him just to make sure. He said it didn't need doing but it seems small prolapses can get work when work is done so I'll mention that too.
Is everything going well with your recovery? Has it all worked? Xx
My prolapses happened after my third 19 yrs ago. I've put up with them and improved them (pelvic floor exercises reduced my rectocele from a 2 to a grade 1) but as I'm older and more unfit my cystocele is getting worse. I don't have terrible symptoms and barely any bladder problems but it is getting worse. My uterus is a pain, even though it's high up all the time when I bear down it comes down so it's definitely making my cystocele worse. After seeing my doctor I got my letter through to make an appointment after a few weeks. When I phoned they gave me a choice of hospitals, a couple of which were private so decided to go to Bath even though it's an hour drive. I think it was about a month from the phone call. That was December and he booked me in for the op on 17th March but I could have had mid Feb so not too long.
If you are having real problems I can't see they'd make you wait as long as me. I think mine is being done very quickly considering my symptoms are not hugely impacting my day to day life. I hope it goes well for you. I'd like to hear how you get on x
Hi Rosie , I am 17 days most op for an rectocelle and perineium repair. At first it was going to be just for a cystocele with perinium repair? Yes I know?
I explain.. I first saw my GP about my prolapse after it was so bad it was resting and bulging out either side of the thin piece of skin that was had become my perineium , it was badly scarred and stretched like an old rubber band my specialist finally described it. As I had bladder control problems I assumed it was a front prolapse. My GP got me to lay down the examine me with a spectulum and said the prolapse was really mild just a slight bulge in my front bladder area and that she thought working with a physio could help , improve things with bladder control if not fix my bladder leakage issues. I had no control really. It hurt and I mean really hurt couldn't walk proerly for days. She prescribed some oestrogen cream to try and soften and put some elasticity into the perineium area and stop the pain. Sex was unabearable. The joys of menopause it was explained had caused the skin in this area to thin, dry out, giving the skin no ability to stretch. I tried for 6 months as didn't want surgery and they said it wasn't a true prolapse. But I could feel it and my marraige and nerves were suffering due to all pain. I went back to my gp told her she couldn't examine me again too painful and demanded a referal to a urogyno. He was ok and after examining me - thankfully without a spectulum after he saw how sore I was down there. He too said he would not touch the bladder area to preform a cystocelle repair unless it was quite a bad prolapse and he too agreed it was mild. My work with the physio on my kegal muscles was quite successful and I found I could go longer without having to run to the tiolet. I could also hold my pee after I got the first signal to go without leaking enableing me to get to the tiolet in time in most cases. A huge improvement as before when I got the first signal it would leak even as I ran to the tiolet and couldn't go out for any period over an hour as I couldn't trust myself to not need to go and leak etc. Of course the leakage just meant I had to wear incontinence pads and they just made the area even more sore. I was now able to not wear the pads , go for a good walk and not worry too much about my bladder. The physio hadn't fully worked and I learnt the your muscles down there are more complex than you think. The physio was starting to work on strengthening my ability to shut off or control the flow as she called it. If I ignored the first warning and my bladder became too full then the muscles failed and not only did i leak I flooded, very embarassing. The strengthening treatment worked by indentifying that I was working the correct kegals and working them correctly. But it involved placing electrodes down there and it was too painful to do. My physio couldn't believe how I was suffering and in pain and discomfort a lot of the time. She said I would need to get my perineum repaired before she could even attempt this treatment and urged me to go back to my urogyno and request the surgery. This I did and had an operation date for 18th Feb. After he agreed to the surgery he also added that there was no guarantee it would be any less painful or that sex would be any better afterwards. But I had had enough it was both emotionally and physically draining. This was the beginning of Dec. I was going privately as my operation was classed as not serious enough to go on our public hospital system here and could have had it done before xmas, but glad I didn't because I had a holiday booked early Jan and then my boss had one when I got back so it had to be early Feb. Any way I am drfiting off my resaon to reply to you. Becasue my surgery was delayed I decided to research if what my urogyno had suggested was right. After all what was the point in going through the surgery if it wasn't going to fix my pain and sex issues and that is when I came across this wonderful forum. Don't worry about swamping it with questions. This forum and its supporters will help you if we can. I had questions regarding pre operation preaparation and shaving etc and recovery times etc. They were all answered but I got mixed responses on the shaving etc and recovery times and some wonderful person suggested I just go back armed with all my questions and ask the hospital. They were useless told me it was up to my urogyno and so I called he was great but suggested I come to see him armed with all my concerns. He went through them and this is the part you will be interested in, when I mentioned the bladder still wasn't 100% and he said he could have a proper look once it was opened up and that I could rest assured that whilst they had me opened up they would fix any issues they saw even if minor. That put my mind at ease. After my surgery my urogyno came to see me . I have a low resting heart rate and had trouble coming around after surgery which was only an hour. He put his hand on my shoulder and apologised . He said he should have examined me standing up because he didn't see my posterior prolapse and vaginal wall collapse which would have been causing me so much discomfort. He explained that often because of the spectulum and being examined laying down it wasn't always possible to see how things really are down there. But once they open you up they can sort things out. So I ended up having a posterior prolapse repair with some vaginal wall removal and perinium repair it seemed both the Urogyno and my GP were right I didn't have a front prolapse, what I could feel was the vagina wall desending and my posterior prolapse which was falling out either side of my perineum. Bottom line they cant always see the full picture until they open you up. But for my piece of mind I am so glad I found this forum but also that I spent the extra $200 going back for an extended visit to my urogyno and got the reassurance I needed. I would really suggest you do too. Just ask what have you got to loose. So guess answer to your question is yes i sure did. But glad I did. Too early to tell if all worth it yet, but can't be worst than it was before and will definately be starting back at physio after my urogyno gives me ok to do so about 8 weeks post op. Good luck with it all and sorry for long post .. Hope this helps
Hi ladies sorry to interupt but I too am very sore around the back of my vagina, I have a stitch knot there that rubs. Do post if you get some improvement and good luck.
Yes be firm with your GP , in fact I would insist on a referal and make sure it is to a Urogyno not just a gyno. All the best, I hope you get things sorted. Here if you need to chat. I went privately but I am in australia and they did not regard my prolapse as a prolapse so it would have been done in our public health system. Turned out it was severe and I would have qualified. Be strong X
I was at The Park, how about you?
