I'm 6 weeks post op, signed off by surgeon for driving etc, going back to work next week. Today I was upstairs changing the bed and the postman knocked on the door and without thinking I ran down the stairs to catch him!
I haven't been using any walking aids since about 10 days but that just showed me how far I've come.
So happy with the way this has gone and how quick my recovery has been.
A life changing operation, and to think I was so scared, when the surgeon said I needed a new hip I was sick on him 😂
Great! Is your postman goodlooking? Sounds like it.
Love the bit about being sick on the surgeon because that happened to me when \i first saw the x-ray of my newly broken leg with all the screws and metal in it. I passed out and then had to go and throw up in the bin in the waiting room.
lovely to hear from you.....me I didn't get sick on anyone, but spent ayear in denial till a very senior physio took X rays, and fast tracked me for hip op 28 days later - NHS is fab!
your running down stairs sounds excellent - don't always do it till better, but excellent!
in my gym I'm practicising, at 8 months, going up stairs TWO at a time...healing takes a full year so moere things to do: I'm jogging inside on treadmill but not outdoors yey..
Have a lovely day, and hope postman brings you lots of presents#
Steps 2 at a time, wow! I think I find going upstairs - with no aids, handrail or anything, is the hardest thing!
I don't use any sticks or crutches at all now and find general walking around absolutely fine. Going downstairs is good, but upstairs uses muscles that haven't been used for quite some time. That's the exercise I should be doing I reckon. Back to gym later today, will take it steady, but I am so looking forward to a swim afterwards 👍🏼
Hi Shirley. I felt exactly the same as you. Spent 6 weeks doing absolutely nothing except messing about on the Internet and sleeping. Then I realised I'll be back at work in a few days and had no time left to do the things I thought I'd do. I had alsorts of wonderful plans for my time off work - unfortunately j didn't take recuperating into consideration 😂 So now I'm on my last few days of freedom and I seem to have so much motivation and energy. In the last few days I have Spring cleaned the house, made and frozen some yummy meals, just generally got on top of everything so that if I'm tired when back at work there won't be too much to do.
As for the gym, I'm not a crazy gym bunny but I do really want to get fit - and maybe lose a pound or two, and I love swimming. I used to do maybe an hour in the gym followed by an hour swimming and I'm really looking forward to my first session back tonight 👍🏼
Hi Shirley, I have been to aqua aerobics today, first time since having my hip done almost 8wks ago, I love swimming so getting back into the water felt wonderful. I took it easy but managed to do most of the exercises if only a little slower, my surgeon advised me to get back into swimming as soon as I could as its low impact and very supportive for your whole body, so hope you made it today Shirley for a swim if so hope you enjoyed it as much as I did the. Susy x
Yes my next things to go for a leisurely swim on my own just wish I could put my socks on when I've finished, going to need them soon with the cold weather warning wev,e had !! X susy
