Citalopram and other SSRI's can take 5 weeks or so for some people, but for many its 3-4 months. You have to be very patient on these meds and just wait whilst the meds get into your body. They will work, but you must give them lots of time.
Forgot to add that they work for the time you take them. I took these for 16 years and worked all that time.
Recovery often comes in waves too, so you may start feeling well followed by a crash again. This is normal and will happen throughout recovery, and the anxiety / depression will finally stop.
Really thanx I m try my best but some time feel I never back 2 normal life sorry about that
Just always thinking like that . But I m always try positive thinking . So can I use any other med with citaloparm like diazepam some time really bad panic
Its quite normal to think in a negative way when you're suffering like this. I did too. As you recover, you'll find your thoughts turn lighter and more positive. It might seem a long process, but its worth the wait.
I think some people do take Diazepam with Citalopram, but you really should check with your doctor or pharmacist about that, especially with the correct dose etc.
Other things to help whilst you're waiting for the meds to kick in, is a little exercise - just a daily walk out in the fresh air is good - exercise releases endorphins, our feel good hormones, and it helps burn off the excess adrenaline. Yoga is excellent. Eating healthily is essential too, and sleep (if you can, as know the meds can cause insomnia at times). Socialising too if you can, though I know it can be a struggle sometimes. And one of the best things is relaxing - I don't mean slump on the sofa, but throughout the day try and do things in a relaxed manner instead of rushing about. Just 'let go' and float along. Deression and anxiety thrive on stress and tension, so letting go helps to desensitize the body. You won't see immediate results, it takes time, but it'll help towards recovery as the meds take effect.
Lastly smile. Apparently smiling, or just lifting the corners of your mouth activates neural messaging that benefits your health and happiness. It helps you relax, lowers your blood pressure and releases serotonin, our happy hormones. It also alters the way we look too - makes us look more attractive Even if you don't feel like smiling, a gentle forced smile helps - and in time you'll smile without thinking about it. Have a practice for a few minutes, then build up maybe?
I try my best but really hard time I start eating last few days but very hard 2 smile just always thing I never back on my life and soon I m die I m sucide though or I never harm my self . But I try my best I do walk few time a day
I'm weaning off to stop completely. I came off about 3 years ago and had a years break and took over the counter meds instead - natural SSRI 5-HTP and l-tyrosine that give no side effects and can be started/stopped anytime. Work quicker too. You can't take them with a prescription SSRI though. Sadly I had to restart Citalopram as my son became ill and the stress began to make me feel ill again, so have taken them for the last 2 years and am nearly off them again. Will return to 5-HTP and l-tyrosine again ... as I do need some sort of meds.
I'd take Citalopram again without any doubt if I need to. They're good and have done me well over the years.
It is good getting through it all - never thought I'd ever recover, and it was worth the wait in the end.
I've read its good to stay on them at least a year from when you start feeling well, to make sure the depression / anxiety doesn't return.
I took Citalopram for 16 years, and had also reduced to a low dose for maintenance for much of that time. Was completely well and happy during tha time. I do need to take 5-HTP etc if not taking prescriptions ones though - without anything I do feel generally low.
5-HTP has been good and it is good to be off Citalopram (but would have no hesitation if I needed to restart it again). So far, so good
