Hello. I am a 63 year old female and I suffer from Ulcerative colitis. I am also on carbimazole 5mg as I have an active nodule which made me hyper. This has settled now. However my eyes are now bothering me. I feel pressure behind them. They go red. I am seeing the eye specialist this Wednesday and the endocrinologist in March.
If my thyroid is back to normal, why am I having eye symptoms?
Some patients have thyroid eye disease without having abnormal thyroid levels. The culprit is the immune system. It produces certain antibodies that can cause inflammation and swelling of the area behind the eyes.
Armelle, you need to ask your doctor to test you for Graves antibodies. Some people have nodules and an autoimmune disease like Graves. I don't think this should wait until March. You need to know what is causing your eye problems. Your family doc can also test you for these antibodies.
