I thought I was passing a Kidney Stone, but ER Dr said Citid

Yesterday morning out of no where had severe pain

on my right side (flank), mostly in my back. It was horrible to the point taking deep breaths was a NO!

Ended up going to Emergency room thinking i was passing a Kidney Stone, but CT scan shows a form of colitis on my colon???? What is going on?

I have to call a Gastroenterologist on Monday and get my poop tested and get scoped as well! I'm so very confused as I'm a parent of a daughter who's had UC since she was 10 years old and I know exactly what Colitis is and I don't have it! I cannot find any articles regarding having just a case of Colitis? HELP ME understand any of this, if you can please.

colitis is inflammation of the large colon; not the same as UC.

Ulcerative Colitis is colitis with ulcerations. The colitis that they said you have is the begining of UC. It starts that way and usually in the rectum to the left side. It could be a chronic disease in you or it may have been caused by an irritant such as CDIFF. That is a harmful bacteria that can cause the body to develope UC in order to get rid of it. The thing is, you can have it and it can strike at any time. I have had IBD most of my life and the outbreaks of it were very subtle at first. It struck me down later in life at age 38 I became very ill. I was passing blood in my stool and I thought it was from a hemeroid or fissure, but it kept getting worse. One day I was in a lot of pain and very weak, so I went to the hospital. They checked me for bacterial infection, but nothing showed up. So I went in for a scope and it showed UC on my left side, with a lot of bleeding. The other biopsies showed disease throughout my colon. I have been battling it ever since. I am now 48 and having another attack of it.

Hi there, I hope you get the answers you need. I was wondering if you know that going on a gluten free diet helps for colitis, uc, and chrohns? My cousin was 7 when she got colitis and quickly turned into chrohns. Yogurt and fermented foods are good options. Hope this helps!
