Hi, my name is Joan and I to suffer from BMS. First of all for the first time I feel like I am not alone in this. I have been to many doctors and they just do not understand and keep trying different medications and of course nothing worked. I stopped going to see the doctors because they really don't know. Not one suggected that it could be postmenopause. I have been suffering now for about 5 years now, its so hard to remember because it creeps up without you without really realizing it. I though it was part of my acid reflex. The best thing to do is your own research. When I found this sight everything made so much more sence to me. I'm not alone anymore. That makes such a difference for me, that I'm not crazy. BMS excists. Thank you all for sharing your BMS, hopefully we can get more people to join our conversation and help one another. Mornings don't feel as bad as the rest of the day. It starts burning in the afternoon and just gets worse from there. Some early evenings it gets so bad that I will take a sleeping pill and just go to bed. Not sure why they say alcohol dosn't help because sometimes a glass or two of wine I feel it can calm me down a bit. Maybe stress has a little part of it aswell or it just takes my mind of the pain. Anyway, hope to hear from someone and share our stories and not feel alone.
Hi Joan,
I,too, have BMS. I thought it had finally gone, but flared up again a few days ago,sod it! Have you tried Boots own dry mouth wash, as I find that helps. Remember, it is just another menopause symptom indicating that your hormones are out of whack. But I know that is an easy explanation and doesn't help when you get anxious about it.
My sister suffered from this. Nobody wanted to listen. The dentist told her she was a hysterical woman! She had if for awhile and then it went away in post menopause.
I’m having awful tooth pain lately, just had an old root canal tooth removed, but still have pain in my bottom teeth. Hoping it will resolve once I’m over the extraction. But it’s making me think all the pain wasn’t from that tooth alone. It’s got to be some more stupid perimeno stuff. The torture never seems to end, just one thing to the next!
Hope your moth stops burning!! XO
You are not alone with this I went through it as well it does go away takes a little bit but it does along with the dry eyes burning nose it's horrible what we go through but I learned to just go with the punches if you don't stress so much over it it won't bother you as much I used to just get a cold cup of water or ice chips it's a strange feeling and hang in there ladies there's a light at the end of the tunnel as much as I went through the burning tongue crawling skin shocking feeling in my head my scalp my stomach doing somersaults couldn't sleep at night anxiety aching joints those still linger around a little bit but for the most part majority of it has taking a hike this ugly thing we call menopause it's horrible I think the worst one for me was the anxiety and staying awake at night but again majority of it went away hang in there ladies
Thanks for this! I have BMS also!! This Is the first time I’ve heard it associated with Peri!!!
I’ve been told I had thrush, it was in my mind, they don’t know what causes it, oh no worries it will just go away! Nobody ever said hey, hormones!!!!
My mouth burns horribly, nasal passages also and I have dry eyes (Dr diagnosis eyes)
I’m not crazy! Thank the lord above for all of you ladies!!! I did buy Biotene Dry Mouth mint spray and it helps take the edge off a little. My eye dr said to use otc nasal gel in a Qtip to moisten my nasal passages. It does help a bit also.
Thanks Ladies!!!
Hello Joan I to feel burning on roof of my mouth nose throat and very dry eyes. Question I had for you has your throat been hurting? I just can’t figure out what is wrong with me. I like you wake up feeling fine by end of day burning back of throat nose and dry eyes I associated it to acid reflux or allergies. Does your throat hurt? It’s been very debilitating doctor said I had Globus Hystericus which I don’t believe thank you and I hope you start feeling better. I forgot to mention I am going through menopause for 2 years.!thanks again.
Yes it is one of the symptoms i experienced burning tongue roof of my mouth still have the dry eyes its horrible it also affect my vision at times i use eye drops for dry eys it help and also cough drops for my throat your not alone ive experience all your symptoms hang in there there is a light at the end of the tunnel
Good Morning Monique,
Thank you for reply to me. I to have the buring on the roof of my mouth aswell. However I don't have dry eyes.
Most of the time my tonque feels like it is to big for my mouth, and it sticks to my roof of my tonque. Lately, even my teeth and jaw hurt, not everyday I think when I'm in a stressful situation, I seem to tense up.
How long before did you start to notice that your mouth started to feel better?
I am going to be 60 this year. I never really had any other symtoms of menopause, however, this bms is making up for all that. I also wonder if this could be heriditory. My mother is no longer here to ask her.
Although, I started having pain down my theighs, apparently pms. I really feel it after I've been sitting or lying down then getting up, OMG the pain is crazy, I take tylenol first thing in the morning, then depending on the day I my take one around 3 then one before bed. That works for me.
Thanks for the positive note!!!!!!
Hope your dry eyes goes away for you soon....
Good morning it wasn't that long that it went away after a while you won't even notice it and then it just disappears it was a couple months I think though that I went through it also you're talking about the pain in the jaw and things like that yes I had that as well it was weird but it did go away as well actually started right behind my ear in the jaw area eventually it went away hang in there it'll get better
Thanks for the encouragment!!!!!!!
Have a good day.....
Good Morning
Thank you for responsed, I to was treated for thrush, and made me feel like I was the crazy one, nobody every said to me either hormones.....
I did do some research on hormone replacement but the side effects out way the benifits by far.
However, I do not have dry eyes, that sounds horrible though,
Believe me your not crazy, it really sound like there are a lot of people out there with the same problem. I cannot talk to anyone not even my husband or freinds about this because I'm just to ashamed to talk about it, People just don't understand unless you have it to. Thank god for this site and not feeling like your crazy. Good luck with your bms. If you need to talk again just e-mail me.
Good Morning
How long did you suffer with it before it went away? I've been suffering for about 3-5 years hard to nail it down because it just kind of creeps on you. I also feel that my tonque is to big for my mouth and it sticks to the roof of my tonque. My gums are now starting to hurt not all the time I think when I get really stressed out or nervous out something. I did go though mp quite easy, apparently my doctor told me that I'm done, however she forgot to mention to me about BMS. Do you have any pains in you thighs? Lately, I've been experiencing pain in both of my theighs, do to perimeno. I starting excercising more and living on tylenol, that seems to work. I can't believe I'm only 60 and I feel like my husband at 70 the aches and pains.
Good luck, stay healthy, lets just get over this perimeno s**t.....
Good Morning Suzanne,
Thank you responding so quickly,
I agree that nobody wants to listen because they think we are crazy and don't understand. Apparently I was even told there is no specialist they could send me to to help.Happy it went away for her when she hit postmenopause, because that is where I'm at now.
Sounds like you are in a lot of pain yourself with your root canal, hopefully the pain will stop soon. I too have gum pain with my bms, just started not that long ago but it's there now. Both upper and lower. NUTS!!!! It just drives my crazy sometimesbecausse there is really know relief.
Good luck Suzanne, stay healthly, let me know how everything works out for you
The only good thing about having a tooth pulled is that now I’m not focused on the other aches and pains! Think I’ll be happy to go back to just that. Tooth pain is the worse!
My sister is 58, she’s got other stuff going on post meno, like full blown panic attacks, but I haven’t heard her complain about burning gums in a long time. So I do think it will resolve itself like everything else does eventually. I told my husband today that it’s torture going from one thing to the next and he reminded me it’s been going on for two years. I guess he’s tired of it too.
It just seems like you hit 50 and there’s nowhere to go but down, it’s so depressing. I feel old
Good morning Ladies!!! Thanks to your post i think i figured out i have BMS. I had read about BMS but really didnt think thats what i had with menopause and anxiety hitting i kept thinking it had to be something worse. Thank you so much for posting this. Also, after reading your post i bought a Cool mist humidifier and i bought the Biotene spray and gum. I am feeling relief!!!!!!! I am praying it get better. This is why this site helps so much because sometimes we have to figure it out ourselves. I really reccommend a humidifier i think that is what has helped me! If it doesnt work you can always return it LOL. Thanks again
Hello Monique i feel the same way but thanks to Joan post i think i figured out what is wrong with me after so many doctors visits. I had read about BMS but really didnt think thats what i had with menopause and anxiety hitting i kept thinking it had to be something worse after reading post i bought a Cool mist humidifier and i bought the Biotene spray and gum. I am feeling relief!!!!!!! I am praying it get better. Sense i had this for a year i think my throat went raw and i still cant eat hot or to cold stuff cause i can feel it hurts. Thanks to all the ladies here indeed. I truly feel without our sharing I’d lose my mind. I’m glad some of you got the Biotene I listed! The Biotene mint spray is still helping me & I find also that brushing teeth 3x daily minimum PLUS using a tongue scraper once a day helps the dry burning feeling. Like you ladies I get an irritated sore throat feeling, mainly after about 4pm like clock work daily! I have the same feeling vaginally!! Endocrinologist advised its due to low estrogen & OTC pharmacy feminine lubricants can ease that & are very safe.
Anyone getting chronic UTI infections?! I’m having a very bad one that wasn’t treated with correct antibiotics...it came back with a vengeance & is so painful. Finally a great Urologist put me on the correct antibiotic 2 days ago & gave me handfuls of Uribel samples for bladder spasms & pain! It’s slowly improving...have any of you had UTI? Urologist told me it’s a Peri symptom due to chemistry body changes!
Hello T74985 thank you for your suggestion on Biotene and everything else. Yes last year was my year for UTI I think i got 5 UTI last year. It was horrible specially cause i hate taking the antibiotics. I was one the estradiol patch .025 i think that helped. I stopped using the patch and then i start going downhill again. I am trying to stay away from using patch because it was giving me bad breast pain and bad hair loss
. I went back to using it but i only do one patch a week. Its suppose to be two patches a week. This year for now i havent gotten a UTI thank god. I am glad you are starting to feel better. ![]()
Is the patch considered HRT? I’m very naive on the topic. I was told by my Endocrinologist to avoid HRT as my family history has estrogen fed female cancers.
I’m at Estrogen if 9.7 very low! and FSH of 142 last month & now in March it’s 182 very high! My hormones are so crazy right now. I’m struggling w anxiety issues due to hormones they think and can’t seem to get over the hump right now. Spending a lot of time in pjs and bed😕😖 I feel anxious & weak . God please let this pass for us all. Thankful for you & others who understand. ☺️
Good morning yes patch is considered HRT and I like you have family history of breast cancer and thats what scares me
. Ive tried to stay away from using it but sometimes its hard
. Exercise has helped me. I drag myself to Gym right after work. 3 times a weeks. It really does make a difference. If i dont go at least 3 times a week i feel so tired all the time. It takes me alot to convince myself that i have to go to gym once i am there its not to bad and i dont regret afterwards.
Different things work for different people I am trying all the suggestions that are given here. Alot of them have worked ![]()
