I took Citalopram for 2 days and haven’t stopped having panic attacks

I took Citalopram on Monday and Tuesday and have had severe full blown panic attacks since then. I now have racing heart and feel nervous. How long should this take to go away since I haven’t taken any since Tuesday?

Hi Charlotte its not a quick fix im afraid but u will get there x I found proponal a big help i am 7 weeks in have been feeling really good for 3 weeks had then had a bit of a panic attack last night and this morning .Although it is really frightening i have learnt how to control them i did take a pro this morning which has helped .Its the breathing techniques and the end anxiety apps that help me x Dont beat yourself up about feeling like u do try not to panic i know its easier said than done x Go with the feeling breath through it x Start a journal that helps x

Thank you so much. I saw the GP yesterday and She was surprised the other GP had prescribed cit for me as I was just having trouble sleeping. I’m now having panic attacks that I’m now depressed and won’t ever be the same again and just don’t know how to deal with this.

Hi, I was exactly the same first few days of taking it. I’m 3 weeks in now and I ain’t had a panic attack since that bee start.

It’s gonna take a while for these side effects to ease I ain’t gonna lie. And you really just have to stick these first few weeks out and I you will see the light at the end of the tunnel

I’ve been telling myself, they are just side effects, they won’t hurt you and it helps me. Mine are easing slightly now

Also beta blocker propranolol I take when I’m really feeling anxious, ask your doctor for the whole the side effects are peaking take care x

Hi Charlotte, it is really important that you keep in touch with your GP when you make changes in your medication, it can be more harmful to come off medication suddenly without their advice.

It often takes some time for medications to work and it is important to stick with it with feedback from your doctor.

I must admit it took me a couple of weeks to start to balance out, when I was prescribed Citalopram and I did have to take Propranalol for some time as well.

Things got bettter when I was also referred for CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), I was able to discuss my health and problems with a brilliant therapist and this helped me move on a little bit from the problems that deepened my depression.

I am not saying that I am cured, that's not how it works, but it is important to keep in touch with your health practitioners who are really qualified to offer you therapies that will work for you and that are safe.

That is ridiculous to prescribe celexa to people that can't sleep instead of prescribing ziplocone..iam not hating on celexa because celexa is a good Medication for anxiety or depression I should know I recovered on it and still on it..but if can't sleep isn't a sleeping tablet better... doctor's are so here and go..get out of my office..

And also proponol isn't for every body..if you have asthma or you have fear of coughing proponol isn't for you..that's why I always say try a benzo.. because I have asthma and you cannot take beta blockers/blood pressure meds if you have asthma..I learn that the hard way.. proponol gave me a cough for two months ..not good...

Hi Charlotte,

I’m on Day 48 so I’m a week behind Michelle. I still get some anxiety but I’m able to control it now. Nothing like what I previously had. It’s a learning process. I get that wired feeling but I do breathing and get myself absorbed with work or I can go out of the building for a walk. Which I highly recommend for you to do each day. It helps the anxiousness tremendously.  I also cut caffeine out of my diet including chocolate and wine. I do miss my glass of wine 🍷. One day I will be able to have a glass. I also keep a journal on my phone. It’s so much easier with technology. It’s amazing to look back at what I couldn’t do. Now I’m beginning to get my life back. My anxiety really heightened from a fatal car crash 12/21/2015. When you walk wear headphones 🎧and listen to inspirational talking or your favorite music 🎶.  Also reach out to this blog. People here are wonderful. They don’t realize they have the great powers to help each other. It’s done wonders for me. Don’t get me wrong I still have some so so times. The citalopram plays with our minds.  I don’t dwell on it like I used to. Good luck and please keep us posted how you are doing. 😎

PS sleeping 💤 well is another huge key to getting better.
