I've been diagnosed with IBS but is it really?

About 5 months ago I started to have frequent diarrhea. I eat very healthy expect for the occasional night out. My symptoms began to get worse and worse. ( diarrhea, followed by a day or 2 of constipation, vomiting, pain on left side of abdomin, abdomin spasms... the list literally goes on) I've don't CT scans, ultra sounds, colonoscopy, blood work, and stool samples. My dr took very long to get me into these things and my flare up had seemingly gone away or got better during most of the test. I feel like my dr's are missing something or don't believe what I am saying. Recently, I started to notice black spots in my stool and I waited to see if it was just once or it was more frequent. After about a week I told my dr and she responded with "good thing you had a colonoscopy to rule out inflammation". I feel like if I didn't have inflammation during this time I could still have it now. Has anyone experienced this? Thank you in advance!

I forgot to mention. During this time I've lost about 15 lbs. I'm very tired all the time and have very little energy to do anything.

Hi Emily I feel like I could have wrote this myself mines been going on 18months I've had bloods ultrasound colonoscopy and endoscopy I kept going to the doctors and they said I had ibs but referred me to gastro doctor at the hospital I had the same syptoms as you ache in left side in my back and ribs ,diarrhoea heartburn pains in my legs honestly the latest is endless my gastro did a sechet scan you swallow a capsule and have a scan and go back a week later and have another scan this is to see how much of the salt is getting reabsorbed like it's suppose to  and how much is just coming out in my case it came back positive it might be worth asking for this scan

if your having frequent diarrhoea then your going to be tired.

to be honest you've had all the tests. no one likes being diagnosed with IBS because there is no magic cure, you just have to manage the symptoms as best you can.

it os possible to have inflammation missed during a colonoscopy, but if the symptoms have been going on a long time then there would still be signs in your intestines, so its quite possible there is nothing wrong but IBS.

try keeping a food diary to see if theres anything that triggers your symptoms

Thank you for this! I will email my dr, again, and see if we can try this one. The newest symptoms being the black blotches in my stool make me very worried

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. Even with new symptoms in the passed week or so my dr isn't doing much about it. I have kept a food diary and when telling my dr she jut tells me I'm "too stressed" and tried to refer me to a psychologist for mood stabilizers. But I'm not stressed out at all. I do understand, however, that if it is "just" IBS there isn't a magical cure and a t first I was ok with that. But with my new symptoms I just get worried.

I understand how frustrating it is.
