Hey everyone, I'm new to this website! Tonight I'm really struggling. Since 11:30pm I've been awake (but shattered) feelings extremely sick. I feel the acid rise a lot and my god I've burped more times imaginable! It feel like something stuck in my throat too! A real lump!! God I hate this illness, Anyone know of any methods of coping?
I forgot to mention I also have emetephobia (a fear of vomit) so this makes things 10X worse for me!
Please get back to me. Thanks. 😊
Firstly, and most importantly, have you seen your doctor?
Persistent reflux is serious and needs to be investigated.
If he hasn't done so already, your doctor will probably put you on an acd suppressant (probably omeprazole or another "PPI" drug) . Whilst excellent at reducing acid, they don't stop the reflux - just make it less corrosive.
To reduce reflux you need to follow th elifestyle modifications: Lose weight if necessary, stop smoking if necessary, eat smaller meals (little and often) . Eat slowly and chew well, keeping your body upright. Do no exercise after food that compresses, tilts or shakes your stomach whilst it is emptying.
Leave at least 3 hours between your last meal and going to bed. raise the head of yur bed 6 inches on blocks.
The feeling of a lump in the throat is called Globus experienced b 50% of refluxers. It is caused by the cricopharyngeal muscle that forms the upper oesophageal sphincter, tightening in a bid to reduce reflux there.
Hi! Thanks for your reply. Yes I have seen a doctor twice and am due to see him in a months time. I was originally prescribed ranitidine and now I'm changed to Lansoprazel. Since being on lansoprazel (which is only a few days) my symptoms seem to have gotten worse. I'm constantly worried that I'll vomit! Crazy and stupid I know but I get into quite a panick! I've been trying things like drinking milk and eating banas and so far they seem to help a little bit.
I had to smile, sorry but I was exactly the same. Can't vomit even in dire circumstances. That feeling in your gut is caused by acid and mucus. If you are not seeing a Dr go! If you are not on meds, GET SOME. If you are under treatment, get the procedure done! I feel for you.
I am 8 weeks post op and feel great, No meds , no acid, no hassles. Just winds and volcanic eruptions LOL!! Can deal with that.
