A few years ago I had a panic attack while at university because I was going through a lot of stuff. I haven't had one until a few days ago. I was sitting with my friends watching a film at the cinema and it came out of the blue, my friend called 111 and they didn't really help. Then at the dentist yesterday, I had another while they were drilling in my mouth after sort of numbing my mouth. I hadn't been dentist in like 10 years before this because I had a huge fear of it due to bad childhood experience. So maybe this was pain related or dentist related, I don't know. I'm on anti depressants and painkillers so maybe this could also be something to do with it.
I just wanna know, is it worth speaking to docs about this or is there anything I can do to stop this from happening or help myself while it's happening?
Panic attacks can come out of the blue at any time. You can speak with the doctor about it but usually they will only prescribe anti-anxiety meds and or tell you to speak with a counselor about reducing your panic and anxiety. There’s not much more they can do so the rest is up to us.
Whole you’re having a panic attack, the best thing to do is go directly to your breathing. There is a proper method of breathing to help you calm down. You can find this on YouTube and search for “panic attack emergency “or just “panic attack”.
they will guide you through it. If you don’t like one try another as they are all different. There is a great guided breathing short meditation called “mindfulness breathing guided meditation 10 minutes“. It helps you to refocus away from the panic. There are numerous other meditations for anxiety, sleep, depression etc. you can also visit a counselor who can talk with you about this and give you some suggestions. It helps to talk to somebody in person and vent this. I hope you feel better soon 🌸🌸🌸

I was brutalised at the dentist when I was seven years old, and that went on until I was in my twenties, eventually when married we moved and changed dentist, the dentist decided the Practice could not treat me because by that time I also had Arthritis in the jaw and was unable to open my mouth fully when I was having treatment. The dentist sent me to the Dental Hospital and they assessed my condition and put me in the Sedation Clinic. I have been on the hospital books now for many years and when I go to my normal dentist they refer me to the sedation clinic. It takes all the fear away and the sedatives suppress my treatment fears. I am still awake just I forget what has gone on.
The only problem is I have a check up every six months, then referred to clinic they give a further check up and arrange an appointment for sedation, it can take twelve months for general treatment although if urgent there is some movement to get in sooner rather than later, I need to anticipate treatment and report in straight away for treatment. My Dental Practice will do temporary fillings, that last until I can get sedation, they prefer to pass me down the line to hospital
So there are alternatives, you can go private and pay for the injection and treatment, however you need to understand if you need say five fillings or extractions you will be banged out for all your treatment, it is like going into a hospital for an operation
