My depression is better, I feel it's almost gone and my panic attacks stopped the day I took citalopram. I haven't had one ever since. I stopped feeling anxious too. I felt like me again.
In the past couple of months though, I've been getting anxiety and have had the feeling you get before a panic attack starts, even on citalopram. This has made me think that maybe I'm not ready and that if I come off, my anxiety will be unbearable.
Do you think I should try to cut down now?
Hi hannnah
I'm in the same boat as you. I want to come off but I'm scared of going thru the side effects all over again(withdrawal).
I made an appointment with my doctor to start the process because I feel better an I still do have anxiety but it's manageable. So I'm gonna just go for it an hope for the best..
I started with 10mg for 4mths and in the last 6mths I've been taking 20mg.it has helped me a lot but I don't want to take theses meds forever I want to be able to to this on my own..
I would even talk to your doctor if your unsure of what to do.... we're all here to support you on your journey 😊
Thank-you for your comment. My doctor did recommend that I consider coming off but she hasn't been with me through the journey. She told me how to withdraw myself from them and I told her I was anxious about coming off, that some days I'm confident about it and others, not so much but she just said, come off them when you're ready. Good luck coming off yours!
I've been coming off mine, you do it slowly, your doctor should make up a schedule of how to come off but s l o w l y is the key and maybe 5 mg say a time too, do not stop cold Turkey. There are natural suppliments to take about a month after you've been free of the cit out of your system. I'm telling you, this is an awesome site to come to for any questions. After the cut try 5 -htp and l-tyrosine all natural without the side effects of cit. But also remember your doctor is the one to talk to too. Good luck and remember this is the forum to come to if you're feeling low or just need a friend, someone will answer you. Your friend, Cindy
Hi, I've been on the meds since November last year at 20mg. As I feel better now I've started to come off them by cutting the dose 5mg at a time. So far I've taken 15mg for two weeks and now I'm in the second week of 10mg. I've had no side effects despite having really bad side effects when I started. I'm going to cut down to 5mg for two weeks and then take it every other day. I'm really happy how it's going, hope it works out for you xo
I've been on citalopram now for 3 years if you feel you want to cut down speak to doctor first .I've tried to cut down didn't help I now feel best way is not to think about cutting down if you feel well on them just take them you'll know when time is right its best to be right in your head and worrying about cutting down doesn't help. I'm 51 and on 20mg hope helps of course everyone is different and you must do what you feel is right I do.
Hi Hannxm how long have you been on cita and what dosage as that will affect the withdrawals ? there are doctors whom recommend staying on them longer to reduce chance of relapse which is tough when people don’t want to be on meds ? I will stay on these for probably 6 months and re-assess I am prepared to stay on for life if I have too.... To think I took such pills recreationally and now i may have to take some permantely legitaimately when I dont want too The Irony ???
