I want to plan a family and I am PCOD

Hi Friends,

I am a PCOS and want to plan a baby now. I am overweight. I have been on metformin and conterceptive pills from July 2014. I started having my regular periods since then due to medicines. However from last two months my conterceptive pills have been stopped so that i can plan my family. So without conterceptive pills I got my 1st period after 32 days. But this month its already 36 days and i have not yet got my periods.I felt heaviness in breast and cramps few days back so I was expecting my periods but pain is no more and I am perfectly fine with no periods. I am not pregnant as per the test. Iam not sure what should I do. Should I wait for few more days and repeat test or should I consult a doctor again.

Hi Juhi, if you have PCOS then you may not be releasing an egg from an ovary each month. There are medicines (clomiphene in the UK) which can stimulate ovulation but they are usually prescribed by a specialist as there are some important side effects and need to be limited time as they can overstimulate the ovaries in a dangerous way.

who diagnosed your PCOS? Do you have q gynaecologist?

Hi, I am consulting a endocrinologist who diagnosed I am PCOD.

Okay. Before you go read the stuff on this web site about Clomifene ( sorry I used the old spelling in my first post!) then you will be more prepared for a discussion with the specialist. There is an operation on the ovaries as well which can improve your chances of ovulating which is mentioned in the section on fertility treatments.

I read about clomifene but i forgot to inform you that i am hyper thyroid... And for people diagnosed with thyroid this medicine is not to be used.
