Therpay is as natural as you'll find I think, and it can and does work every bit as well as meds. Might be worth trying if you haven't already
I am getting ready to start therapy later this month, thanks for your comment since I have hady doubts.
That's good to hear, therapy can be great, it takes time but it's really worth it
I have been reading about breathing etc and other techniques which seem to have held off more anxiety attacks and of course the meds. None of these has touched the root of my anxiety I presume
What about seeking out a complimentary/alternative doctor?
Sadly no, all these things can help the symptoms short term, but they do nothing for the root cause
I'll see what happens with my first therapy
Therapy, a good one that's actually helping. Another thing I did other than exercising or hiking was seeing a nutritionist.
Me too, my diet is free of caffeine, sugar and other food that is just crap.
Yeah those definitely don't help. My nutritionist did something called Nutritional Response Test. It's like acupuncture except way cooler and actually works. They use pressure points to determine what kind of supplement you need. I'm not sure if all nutritionists are trained in this though. But therapy, nutrition and the other little things you do to help (exercising, writing in a journal, etc) help. It does take longer to see any effects but it is a lot better than taking medicine that you're body can become dependent on and cause other unwanted side effects.
Hi there,
I have used acupuncture and homeopathy extensively for this and many other things.
In conjunction with therapy, they worked very well. You can geet acupuncture on the NHS now, so it should be free. If you're in or near London, you can ask your GP to refer you to the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital, which is also free.
One last thing - reflexology. I was working for a (disabled) man who was studying reflexology, so as his assistant, went to the classes with him. One day, the tutor asked me if I would mind being a 'patient' for another student to learn on. I agreed to do this and was very surprised by the results. In fact, i had to stay off work for a week afterwards, while all the toxic things in my body which had been rreleased by the reflexology came out of my system. The whole group was fascinated by this (as was i) and I certainly think that reflexology is very useful.
I have found in the past that any natural products containing valerian and avina sativa have helped me to sleep.
All the best, anad don't forget that therapy will play a big part in your rrecovery from anxiety. Mesage me any time if you think I can help - I was a midwife for years and used homeopathy in my practice. Tess.
Some natural products advised by a naturopath doctor was 5htp-supplement for an antidepressant and Gaba which calms the nerves as needed.
If by Gaba you mean gabapentin, that's not a natural product, far from it. Natural products generally will do no harm, unfortunately there's absolutely no solid evidence to show they do any good either. Any evidence has no foundation when examined.
It's called Gaba not Gabapentin. I'm not claiming they're the better option. I was simply stating what my naturopath advised for me vs chemical medication.
Thanks for all you posts and advice.
I've been fighting this for years and have tried just about everything, including stays in mh. clinics.
I take 10mg Lexapro in the morning and am wondering, as I am very sensitive to medication, if that is too much. I take 0.125mg clonazepam when I can't cope.
I've found an acupunture practice near where I live but have heard that you have to stop any medication before they will try to help you.
I'll see,

Must try these two for my Anxiety, Id try anything at this stage!!!
You can call and ask. Most likely they do more the. Acupuncture as well.
saw my CPN today. Interesting as I am a "medical enigma" his words because I am so over sensitive to meds. he says that to try a more complementary approach has to be done with professional help. He suggested first fine tuning the Lexapro I am taking. I see the psychiatrist next week and will suggest dropping the dose from 10mg to 5mg. I'll be tapering as I have dismal side effects with all meds.
At the moment my numb face/foggy brain/ lack of motivation and forgetfulness are not stop all day and everyday. Trouble is they are also symptoms of depression. Not only "the wheels on the bus" but the vicious circle goes round and round. All mh doctoring is trial and error...
take care Sxx
Same with me, my body becomes to familiar with certain meds and any of the ones that work, my body becomes amune to them
