I was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis in 1997. I was given a leaflet about it which wasn't anywhere near as informative as this website. For some time I had regular check-ups with a specialist, but as my condition seemed fairly stable & not too troublesome, I was told I did not need to see him any more. I also saw the Physiotherapist who showed my husband & I how to do the Physio. For a while this was successful, but as my husband is elderly with a heart condition, it was difficult for him to do it & I found it hard to do myself. I also found that it did not seem to make a lot of difference. I was then prescribed a Salbutamol Inhaler which I have found very effective in keeping the cough loose & preventing any tightness. I use this night & morning & occasionally during the day if my chest is particularly bad. Of course I also have a couse of antibiotics if I get an infection.
