I was diagnosed with gallstones around 8 years ago and chickened out of the op and struck off the waiting list twice so far ! I actually only have one single gallstone measuring only 5mm but was advised to have my gallbladder removed even though my pains were very infrequent. I have recently been getting more frequent pains, particularly after meals but am still scared to go and have the operation. Family and friends are telling me I'm silly not to go and are scaring me with nasty stories about complications if I do not have it removed !
Please can anyone tell me anything to make me change my mind?

I am not surprised that you are scared; cholecystectomy was first performed 124 years ago to cure gallstones and they are still using it today. Why isn't there a better way to deal with the stones as most people would seriously like to keep their gall bladder, it does perform an inportant function. I am waiting to have ERCP and then laparoscopic cholecystectomy, which I really don't want to have. I am resorting to herbal and chinese medicine hoping to cure myself and avoid the surgery. Why isn't there a support group to help people like us?

prolonging this will only make it worse. im a baby but the pain i was in made me have the operation so i was free from it. the op itself went really well and u can hardly see the scars the that small. its just 2 weeks after surgery is the worst u cant move round very much and its just the case of times a healer. i would not look back and was really glad i had it done.
