I was given some medication to get my heart back to a normal rate and it worked first time thank goodness. Anyway they said it was an svt and I'm waiting to see a cardiologist. I feel pretty rubbish at the moment, a bit spaced out and worried it will happen again. Is it normal to feel weird after this happens? I'm thinking as my heart rate was 185 for 2 days my body might be a bit tired? This is all new to me so I'm freaking myself out. My chest also hurts and my head aches too. Could that be the medication? I forget the name of the mess but it starts with aden....
Please could someone give me some advice? I suffer from anxiety which might be obvious from my rambling! Lol
Thanks in advance x
Hi its called adeosine I had that lots sometimes twice a week theres a group on Facebook called svt awareness and other groups there very good, ive had ablation done now in april x angela
Thanks angela I will look up that group on fb x
Yeh do its easier to talk on there I'll look out for you, I went through awful time with svt a skipped beat could cause it or just bending xxx
Could be you're tired. Could be you were already tired. Could also be the medication they put you on. Did they put you on medication and if so what? Also, how long before you posted this were you given the medication the ygave you when you sought treatment?
It is normal for your chest to hurt after such an attack, though I'd want them to make sure SVT is all that was wrong if it sticks around. Most likely it is.
I can't imagine going for two days with a heart rate of 185. When I used to get PSVT I couldn't breathe or move, or stand up, and the attacks only lasted three to ten minutes.
I just got an ablation, and so far it's not been back, though it does take the heart several months to recover, so for instance I have even more PVCs than I used to.
If you suffer from anxiety or are nervous, you may get more extra little heartbeats and brief irregularities like PVCs than normal, which will often set off SVT if you are subject to it.
SVT is an electrical abnormality. Drugs often control it, but they have nasty side effects, and people often simply get a minor surgical procedure to fix the problem, where they burn out the abnormal area that most often causes the extra electrical circuit. There are two common causes of this problem; one usually begins to act up in middle age, and the other usually acts up in children to young adults.

Hiya thanks for replying. I was only given the medication to slow my heart rate down so I'm not on and meds at the moment. I just feel rubbish and really tired but that adenosine gives you quite a spasm doesn't it so perhaps that's just it. I'm hoping that I can just get on with things but I'm panicking so that doesn't help. My actual heart rate seems fine at the moment though and has been since they gave me the adenosine x
Hi Sonia,I always feel horrible after a attack, tired, headache and feel like someone has thumped me in my chest, definitely not a nice feeling.
Thanks joanne, I just need to confirm what's normal xx
Hi sonia
Try not to stress its normal I was the same and you feel rubbish. My heart rate was 230 but now is controlled by beta blockers I have also seen a cardiac specialist and they have given me the choice to have an ablation so I was where you were. Feel free to chat any time
Sal
Thank you sal, it's good to know I can talk to someone who understands xx
Hi Sonia\
The medication is Adenosine, I think I spelled it right. thanks to Angelahark. Ablation was the cure for me, but the svt still comes back now and then after a heavy meal. I still have lots of pvcs but they I can deal with. The svt is so uncomfortable, but what they worry about, at least in my case, was prolonged low
blood pressure. Svt is a fast beating at the top of the heart, above the main pumping chambers,,so the heart still supplies blood as the ventricles still are pumping pretty well. I once played an entire football game in svt,,sometimes would go on for days...had it since I was a kid off and on. My doc put it this way,,,if your heart can beat at 185 for 2 days,,,you have a pretty strong heart there,,,almost like
a stress test...do look into ablation if it becomes where you fear the svt,,and begin
almost a shut in..Now if you get into the 200's fainting could be a problem....Its very common, many young people get it in high heat conditions, etc,,,,take care, and hope you get it taken care of so you dont worry. be well
Charlie
Thanks Charlie, my blood pressure was really low too during the event but is generally low anyway. I hope my appointment comes through quickly so I can start getting on with things. Thanks for replying it's so good to hear from others x
Blood pressure is often low during svt because the heart chambers aren't filling before they pump, so they aren't pumping properly. There is also a risk of stroke if it goes on for a long period of time because clots can form in the heart.
My blood pressure goes up because I'm panicing
You'd think mine would too but I was ok ish during the svt, my anxiety is much worse after the event with my brain thinking what might happen, what could of happened! I would be ok if I didn't over think everything
Hi Sonia , I had an ablation done on Tuesday the 28th of October after having svt for 25 years I've been on sotalol beta blockers for the same time , it's quite a scary problem to have and never know when you will have an episode of svt I have managed it well but I have had a few trips to a&e to slow my heart down
I think anxiety plays a big part in the on set of episodes and when it starts the anxiety seems to make it worse and you feel as though you may pass out , have you tried the bearing down method to stop the palpitations ? It does work and may stop you having to going to a&e are you on any medication ? This can make you feel strange when you first start taking it ,please let me know how you are getting on with it it always helps to talk to other people who have the same condition
John
Hi John, I'm not on any medication and waiting to see cardiologist. I think I've had a few episodes over the past year but they've always stopped on their own and were always put down to anxiety. I tried cold water and bearing down but couldn't get it to stop. It was all so scary because I was trying to pull myself together thinking it was a panic attack but my blood pressure was really low so I could barely get up.
Hopefully things will settle soon. Thank you so much for replying I appreciate the support
If this svt starts now I lie down and put my arms over my head. Stops immediately. Might work. Different solutions work to stop it for each person.
Cheers,,,,
