My son was on 600mg a day of Pregabalinuntil Thursday of last week and the Doctor has just stopped it completely is this normal?? I would of expected him to of had it reduced. He has been on this medications for over 3 years also
Hi I was on 600mg daily also for 3 years. I have came off pregabilin twice before abruptly but had to go back on as was getting severe anxiety/ panic attacks. You're not supposed to come off these tablets abruptly the dr should be weaning your Don off these. I am now down to 25mg a day I have slowly weaned myself off over last 14 weeks going from 600 to 300 to 200 to 100 to 50 then yo 25mg a day. So far has been ok... get the odd headache, am a little anxious, insomnia, tiredness now and again but overall I feel much more alert and have more energy. Pregabilin is not a drug I would take again and can't wait to be fully off them. Dr told me and have read takes roughly 4 months to feel back to normal once completely off these.
Thanks, I though he should of been weaned off them as he suffers with anxiety/panic attacks and now seems to be worst than ever. I will be making a complaint asap to his doctor.
Great will be a lot better for him if he weans off slowly. Best wishes to u both
I'm sure you shoud go and get a second opinion, I personally wouldn't come off them cold turkey, I would be worried about the pain returning and apparently there's withdrawl symptoms
NO.....He should gradually lower the dosage. I've had 2 doctors tell me exactly that...
Thanks for your comments, I've also seen my own doctor who has confirmed he should of been gradually reduced of the dosage. I just don't know which way to turn as my son is in prison at the moment and its the duty doctor who has stopped his pregabilin because of his actions my son has self harmed (which he has never done before) now the prison service has got him on suicide watch. I have voiced my concerns to no avail, the prison service just close ranks. At the end of the day its the Health Care who are at fault.
My son has been on this medication for serious anxiety problems for over 4 years, since January he has seen 7 Psychiatrist who all said he should stay on this medication. A very concerened mum.
That sounds terrible. The Dr has no right to do that but the health care in prision is horrendous. I had a friend who was in and they wouldn't allow him to tke his combination therapy in with him and hd to wait to see a Dr and when he did the Dr wasn't ble to prescribe them as they come from the hospital. I hope you can get somewhere with the prison service. Have you tried contacting you sons Dr and explaining the situation to them and try to get a copy of your sons medical records sent to the prison
I have spoke with the Manager of Health Care within the prison, all I got was we can't comment. The prison have got all my sons medical records so know the situation. Have wrote to the local MP for advise not even had a reply. The prison say I have to write to the govoner, which I did on a previous matter didn't get a reply. I have now contacted the NHS England who have replied and will be looking into my concerns. Thats still not the answer as my son is still not recieving his medication and my fears are growing, it is now a week he's not had these tablets, I'm going on a visit tomorrow god only knows what I'm going into. I just pray he's ok

How was your son when you visited him? Managed to get his medication sorted out?
Thanks for the reply/concern.He was very anxious and unsettled, they have still not given him his medication, I feel like i'm fighting a losing battle with the prison and the health care team. The NHS England have given me some information, but I don't hold out much hope, should get a response within 40 days. Its just a joke. This is all because the medication in question was not in the container when my son picked it up to take back to his cell for the night time, when he question were the medication was, the dr ended his medication. The only person who can be at fault is the nurse who was dispensing, at the end of the day she only human and errors are made, but they won't admit to being in the wrong, take it out on the prisoner.

Could you speak to his lawyer to see if he would be able to deal with it? It does sound like a nightmare. I hope you are able to get this sorted but remember to look after youself, don't let the stress get to you too much
