Without more information it is impossible to say as everyone is different! How about telling us your age, fitness, weight, mobility, and any health problems, any balance issues, how well do you manage with crutches, is your home on one level or will you have to manage stairs, are you a smoker, a drinker and how positive and confident a person are you and do you recover quickly from surgical procedures? Are you planning on having any help when you get home, anyone available to help you over the first few days? Cheers, Richard

Hi Sylvi

I had THR with trochenteric osteotomy because I have hip dysplasia in other leg. I was non weight bearing/transfer only for 6 weeks and had a ‘gutter’ walking frame to transfer from bed to chair to commode etc supplied by the hospital. I also used my own self propelling wheelchair to get around pushing the frame in front of me if I wanted to go to the loo or stand to reach something. That was 12 weeks ago but because of delay in home visit physio and lack of crutches I only started on crutches a week ago so quite a slow recovery. Where are you having the surgery? I had mine at Wrightington UK.
