IBS and food

I have just been diagnosed with IBS. I was told by my doctor to eliminate trigger foods. Has anyone got any tips as to where to start?

Your mission is find out which exact food / group give you the most IBS symptoms, so (for example) you can keep a food diary and score your symptoms after eating, so you could have a plate of pasta, tomato sauce and a banana you can then score the amount of symptoms these combinations produce. After a while youll work out which foods / groups arent so great so to avoid them

for me sweetcorn is BAD if i eat a corn on the cob i suffer for 2 days after,

i learnt this when someone told me about her dad he use to eat a lot of corn and it blocked him up, ended up in hopspital with it,

Re the food diary, it's a good idea, I was recommended to do this by the hospital dietician, who gave me a list of the more common trigger foods, like chocolate, onions, acidic fruit, spices, eggs, cheese....a very long list! I started by eating normally for a week, writing down what I'd had, and if I had a reaction or not. The problem with IBS is that it can take up to 3 days to get a reaction to some foods, but the most obvious ones for me were onions, curry, rich creamy sauces and vinegary things. Different for everyone, of course. Also a problem with IBS is that your personal trigger foods can change, so one week you're ok eating eg curry, the next week you're curled up in agony. It's just trial and error. I tried Aloe Vera juice (expensive) but didn't find it helped. Good luck!
