IBS and trying to lose weight

I have had IBS since I was 32 years old and I am trying to lose weight with no success. I have a Fitness pal app on my phone and I have been adding my food onto this app and I am within the calories for each day but not losing any weight and wonder if it is because if I have IBS and would like some advice on what I could do to lose weight please

I have IBS problems for 10 month, but no problem with overweight. You can try with table tennis and cycling.

Good luck

I was asking more about diet. I already exercise thanks

Try aloe vera and l-glutamine (an amino acid). I am 68, use both, have had IBS for years and workout daily. I weigh what I did when I graduated from high school. The aloe vera is particularly helpful. Ginger root has also calmed my symptoms. I do usually need to visit the bathroom shortly after my 90 minute daily workouts.

I generally follow the low Fodmap diet and that lost me weight without trying - first off it cuts down on cereals and secondly on many sugars, so it seems to work quite naturally. Over 18 months I've gone from 175 pounds to 140, and I'm very steady at that weight.

Only downside for me is that it's exacerbated my natural tendency to constipation.

Ginger root you know is Berry spicy

That stuff burns my throat I wondered if ginger root could further inflame an all ready inflamed tummy ?.

I know fresh ginger is not as potent but really not sure whether I should have it when my tummy is inflamed bloated etc.

Do you have ginger root when your tummy is bloated ?

there is no reason why IBS would stop you from loosing weight.

with myfitness pal are you using their guidelines or have you worked out how many calories you should be having yourself? it is better to do it yourself, then subtract 10-20% from your maintainence to loose weight.

also do not use their 'generic' food items. use the specific brands you are using and check the info on the database with the package of the food, as very often manufactureres change their ingedients and portion sizes and the data on MFP is out of date.

next make sure you are weighing your food not just guestimating, and make sure to include all drinks as well as food - these can soon add up.

to estimate your calories use these formula:

10 x weight (kg) + 6.25 x height (cm) - 5 x age (y) - 161

655.1 + (9.563 X weight in kg) + (1.85 X height in cm) - (4.676 X age in years)

Hi thanks for your reply but that is too complicated for me to understand

It's OK. You're not the only one!

hi, I have used the fitness pla Tra ker and in order for you to lose weight you have to make sure you don't eat the calories that you lost through exercise. The tracker will automatically increase your calories for the day by the calories burned. Also try to cut down on foods that contain processed sugar and eat more power foods such as fruits and vegetables and protains. Also stay away from salad dressing. if you want dressing with your salad use no more than 1 teaspoon.

also switch your bread to whole grain Bread with lots of fiber.

basically google ' calorie calculator' if you dont want to do the maths and use a few different ones to find out your daily calorie needs. then subtract 10-20% from this to loose weight.

when using my fitness pal make sure you search for the brand of food you are eating and dont use the generic things in the database as they are often wrong eg: if you are eating kellogs cornflakes then make sure you search for 'kellogs cornflakes' and check the info with the back of the packet to make sure its correct. dont just choose the listing marked 'cornflakes'.

make sure you weigh your food to get accurate amounts - dont guess
