IBS diagnosed approx 6 years ago usually well controlled. Flare up or something more? Help 😢

Ok sorry for the long explanation but want to make sure I cover everything.

I was diagnosed with ibs 6 years ago due to cramps and needing to go to the toilet etc. After my son was born 3 1/2 year ago I had abdominal pain which turned out to be gastritis and I'm still taking 30mg lansoprasole daily for this.

Back to ibs question, I've had what I thought was 3 flare ups of ibs since just before xmas. Shooting pain up anus which seems to spread to lower abdomen with severe pain but unable to pass stool or wind. (Previous flare ups were diarrhoea which eased cramps after).

Once the pain has subsided I'm left feeling bruised and unable to go from standing to sitting without wincing and unable to wear trousers that put any pressure on my abdomen this will last 3-4 days. Does anyone else have symptoms similar to this?

Also I've been having lower back pain not sure if that's related to this or whether that's due to my job which can't be quite physical.

Any replies/reassurance would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Forgot to mention i also have hiatus hernia and gallstones

Every flare up is different and symptoms vary from person to person. Back pain is common with IBS.  You can alternate between diarrhoea and constipation.  My symptoms started with constipation, loose stools, shifting abdominal pain, back pain and nausea.

Gallstomes may also becplaying a part in your symptoms.

I have the exact same thing. I seriously thought I was the only one. Everything you just described is identical to my problem. I just had an attack 2 weeks ago that lasted 24 hours. Nothing helps me. I feel so anxious and helpless. If you find anything that helps with the pain, please let me know. My therapist suggested Valium but I haven't asked my Dr about it yet.

Is yours diagnosed as ibs? It's a very lonely place to be although my partner is there for me he doesn't understand how much it really affects me. It has got to the point where it is affecting my abilities to be a parent and also go to work. Hope you find some relief soon

Maybe it is just a flare up then, maybe it's different because it's ibs c instead I of my usual ibs d .  I am going through quite a stressful time at the moment so maybe that's a big factor. Thank you for your reply and reassurance

I usually have IBS C but sometimes I get IBS D if very stressed.  I got stressed last year in the summer and had IBS D for three days and I ended up having to get Imodium from my chemist.
