I have been following the artcle that someone wrote regarding gas smelling like sulphur and read many of the responses that people have wrote. I believe I have tried every single one of them over the years. I basically never ate much because anything I would put in my mouth would cause my stomach to bloat. It is easier to just not eat. I am really depressed because I have been on disability for neuopathy and my stomach issues have become worse because I got sick and lost a lot of weight and trying to gain weight when you are constantly having issues and spend a great deal of time in the bathroom and afraid to go anywhere because I never know what will happen. I have had many accidents that I I was completely embarrassed over such as not making it to the bathroom and pooping in my pants which ended up on the floor. I have been living on lactaid pill, gas-x, apple cider vinegar probiotics, fiber, etc. you name it. Nothing makes a difference. I have had this issue since I was a teenager and I blame it mostly on nerves. I have no answers but would really like some my gastroentologist has been working with me and recently wanted me to try a fodmap diet. That is not working either. I know a couple of people mentioned that they were not able to work because of this issue and frankly I am scared to death to go back to work. I haven't worked in five years but in order for me to continue to get benefits I have to prove a good reason. I am wondering if anyone as ever received disability for this issue? It is a major problem and I feel that I do not want to go to work and have to explain to my boss why I am late every morning, why I spend so much time running to the bathroom or taking to many breaks, etc. I do not see any answer to my problem other than not eating but I am continuing to search for some answers. I have been thinking about visiting an acupuncturist to see if they can help. I will keep you posted on that. I am at my wits end and I could really use some positive news.
GERD, IBS, I believe are accepted disabilities that may even be complicated with depression, anxiety and possibly other disorders. I find lactaid (dairy-free) products that may help. I also do probiotics, kombucha (even though sometimes the fermenting can hit the gut hard, it's sometimes a welcome relief. along with the occasional swig of pepto bismol. I also experience excess salivation and find myself regurgitating foamy liquid with sometimes a bit of food! I have also experienced the very embarrassing contstant trips to the bathroom, sometimes diarrhea, sometimes constipation, always potent gas. I consider my time away from eating is my intermittent fasting... same reason. I can vomit a small amount of food, to a lot of liquid, or eating too fast... sometimes it the apple peelings or tomato skins and even beans of all kind from their skins! which really takes the fun out of beans... I have cut out dairy and gluten, and take digestive aids for BOTH, which sometimes helps? but not often enough. sometimes just slowly nibbling on saltine crackers, warm/hot broth (I ask them at the Chinese restaurants to skim ONLY the broth from the hot and sour soup, it really is a comfort. no caffeine either. loose clothing! ARG!!! I'm a designer and I even have a challenge with bras if too constricting... fortunately, the trends for the boho maxi dresses/skirts disguise going braless. speak with your doctors for a complete review of even having them WATCH you eat, just to prove it is A REAL DISABILITY not to be able to EAT normally. it's easier to NOT EAT, just like you say. I have lost so much weight, my hair was falling out and I suffered from many bouts of electrolyte depletion. I had to leave work often because my hands would seize up using my mouse and keyboard, as well as my legs cramping horribly... I couldn't stand up! I had several poopy accidents also, at home and work. after you get an extremely detailed account from your doctor and labs and list of prescriptions, as well as all the dietary "adjustments"... contact your local social security office or apply online to qualify from such a different diet profile. HANG IN THERE! slowly sipping non-dairy protein shakes/milks (even soy, almond alternatives make a BIG difference!) I actually carry a roll of pet waste bags in my purse for that urge to puke because the food just comes up. chewing HABITUALLY till food is mush helps... applesauce in small quantities, I can't do oatmeal very well, but I just keep trying. mashed potatoes, and kombucha drinks seem to help, as well as sucking out the real juice of a lemon helps. yes, to the apple cider vinegar, too! just be sure you play with your food between bites if dining with friends or relatives who may find your dietary needs are "just not like the average bear"... I can do fresh cherries from the produce section. I think if you work with your doctors and SSA you can seek the help you need. IT IS SERIOUS, and you deserve to be taken seriously so that you can find some enjoyment from life! will be interested in what you find with an acupuncturist. you may have a herniated vagus (sphincter muscle between esophagus and stomach not functioning properly.) or even gastroparesis. it's been serious for me these last 3-4 years, to the point that I cannot tolerate food aromas! i'm still searching too. I have some ease with frozen fruitsicles, along with omeprazole, alka seltzer chewable antacid tabs and pepto bismol. with the intermittent "fasting" you body may adjust. Positive news? YOU ARE NOT ALONE with these rare gastric disease conditions and there is no cure in MANY cases. I am afraid of these food aversions, fainting, having a stroke or muscle seizures, spewing food that I can't keep down when I am so very careful! CBD oil may help... support group may help, meditation, deep breathing. laughing about it helps... sharing helps... these are positive measures that may help hanging on to your wit's end! JUST KNOW, it's not in your mind. it's in your gut and experimenting with morsels throughout the day. my hair grew back, thankfully! I am trying to work on the GAS and bloating. somedays I will wear a sweat wrap around my midriff which has actually helped squeeze out the gas and reduce the bloating! but, can't do that too often. maybe 1-2 times a week. BEST OF LUCK MY NEW GASSY FRIEND!!
