ibs long term antibiotics and probiotics

I am on long term antibiotics for e-coli infection. I suffer from ibs and wonder if taking probiotics would help. My doctor says the antibiotics are like domestics and clears all the healthy bacteria in the stomach. Would a priobitic help. I am also on many medications and have to be careful what I should take.

Taking yoghurts or sourdough which is rich in probiotics can help to rebalance your gut flora after taking antibiotics.  Probiotics can also help your IBS symptoms.

Probiotics would absolutely be helpful for you.  Antibiotics may kill some good and bad bacteria in your digestive tract and probiotics can replace the good bacteria, keeping your gut and body in balance.  Probiotics have also been found to improve IBS and if can help with the diarrhea you could encounter from antibiotic use.  I can attest to this, as I have had relief of my IBS symptoms from using a probiotic for the last 3 years.

Definitely take probiotics as antibiotics kill all the bacteria. You need a really good sort.

Hi, Antibiotics are indiscriminate they wipe out good and bad bacteria, you should try to get a multi strain probiotic as strong as possible, can you get Kefir ?, Kefir is a strong probiotic drink, there is milk Kefir and water Kefir, you can make Kefir yourself, it's very easy, lots of info online about Kefir, the good bacteria in your digestive system do all sorts of things, play apart in the immune system, things to do with nutrient uptake etc.

There is some proof that certain probiotics may help out get better bad-tempered bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms. Probiotics are normally defined as living microorganisms that, in adequate amounts, supply health benefits.

Hi there! How are you doing now? I hope you are in better condition. The best advise you could get is from a doctor, so always take time to see your doctor dear.
