IBS need to know

I am sure I have had IBS for many years but the doctor has never said it is. I have bloating, cramps

and have loose bowels several times a day and after everything I eat. All medicines too just run

through me. I want to try and treat this myself with diet or OTC medicines as I already have to take

several other medicines and prefer not to go down that route. Can the posters here give me a

starting point for bad/good foods or any self help that has worked for them. I don't need to tell you

how miserable this makes me, I can eat out anymore. Thanks to all who repond, appreciate it.

Hi I have suffered for about 6 years now but am just hopefully recovering from a runny tummy every day for 6 months. You have to find your triggers mine mainly is stress and tension as I had greif to deal with, also fatty greasy foods and bread and foods I avoid also tea as the caffine acts as a laxitive. Have you tried peppermint capsules, i swear by them to help a dodgy tummy smile

Thanks for your reply. I will buy peppermint capsules tomorrow and also going to try some wheat-free products and lactose free milk. I will also try decaffeinated tea.

Don't know why my post is disjointed.

Peppermint capsules gave me more discomfort and sort of heart burn. No releaf for months. Doctor never said it was IBS even when asked several times, if he had I could have looked it up. I eventually asked for protem pump medication, this helped more. Then was advised by Coeliac UK (am diagnosed coeliac) to try Soya milk, then as helped said try Lactose free.....Weeks later had milk.....was I sorry. So for now am doing very well, apples trigger me a bit but settles after a while. Pleased am in the older age group as very tricky condition and painful. Feel for younger folk Just couple weeks ago got copies of info from hospital info centre if only had done this earlier it could have helped. So dont need doctor advice now. Lets hope you find out what is causing your situation., .Nearly two half years to get releaf by food change.

Everyone needs to find what works for them its a pity the peppermint didnt work for you perhaps its because of the coeliac?? I swear by them and its a nice natural thing to take. Im not too sure how different coeliac is from IBS but i agree that looking into you food may help smile

Hi joola26, Young man near by was put on Fybogel sachets by gp BUT his had added mebeverine which helped to control his motions, etc., (via mum) Fybogel obtained from chemist should think minus other ingredient. Think same ingredient in colpermin caps from chemist. Worth a thought maybe. I am not cured but much improved.

Thanks Osborne. Tried peppermint and unfortunately it irritated my acid reflux. I am having a go at a Probiotic advertised by Carol Vorderman to see if that will settle things. I will try anything!

Hello joola, lets hope probiotics help. Tough going at times so fully understand. Am doing fairly well so satisfied enough as getting lots of releave from discomfort. Let us know how you progress on carol Vs suggestion. My gp didnt say it was IBS but the time came when I decided to think it as such and sought info from local hospital centre as a guide. Apparently same info as gp would have. NHS Has gp done any tests as it appears they are reluctant to Diagnose IBS just in case turns out to be something else but may put it on records and not tell you. Anyway lets hope you get some improvement soon and more suggestions that may help.
