Hi hope4cure,

I'm afraid I haven't experienced this. I hope you figure something out though .. . maybe you could tell your doc the tablets aren't working?

Best wishes,

Hi Hope - what a lovely positive name. You can get enzyme tablets online very cheaply and some people find they work better if they take them with their food or half an hour after, it is a good idea to try a few variations to find what is best for you personally.

Have you tried slippery elm and dgl liquorice? Don't forget the doctors tend to look at things in a black and white surgical way rather than looking at how to prevent things or build things up. It sounds to me like your stomach and intestines need building up.

Hi Hope...

I had my gallbladder out in 2012 and was fine for a year but then my digestive problems started. Not as severe as you describe but certainly today I have IBS which I didn't before! There is an unpleasant thing called 'dumping syndrome', which means that bile from the liver is literally dumped into the GI system and causes problems. However, other than that, there is also an amazingly high number of folk for whom living without a gallbladder means that you have to be very careful how much fat you eat! Like you, I struggle with eating out as you never know how much fat has been used in the cooking of your meal and, for me, fried foods, except in VERY small amounts are a complete no no. When you have a gallbladder, there is a reserve of bile which can be used to tackle a high fat meal but now that you don't have that reservoir any more, your liver just can't make enough bile to cope and hence food tends to pass through indigested. Undigested fat moves quickly through the system and you get diarrhoea. So... a low fat diet is probably going to help you. I do not profess to be an expert though, just (unfortunately) experienced :-)

Thanks anonymous girl..

Thanks for listening ..it's so nice to have this forum to turn to.

the doc said since my gallbladder is gone that I have no enzimes to break up my foods. It takes time and to increase the enzimes to 3xs per day from 2.. I appreciate UR help.

Carmel,

I didn't know prescription enzimes were on line. I eat yogurt plain for good bacteria & i eat papaya for enzimes.

i am always suffering with stomach cramps after meals.. It's terrible.

I have to take enzimes before meals always so. Will ask about different enzimes.

I'm not sure what u mean my stomach & intestines need building up?

will these herbs interact with enzimes I'm taking? Cause build up?

thanks for sharing.

Loppylugs,

U sound like u too have severe issues with IBS.. UR right I never had IBS BEFORE my gallbladder was removed. Galbladder is such a gross word goes with the gross side effects from removal. Sometime I wish I did  not have it removed, but had no choice.  The stomach cramps r soo awful sweating, extreme weakness. It's draining & exhausting.I'd rather be in child labor..I know that sound strong. Each attack lasts for hours. I am loosing so much weight. I drink boost . Even taking herbs enzimes or Zantac my tummy still revolts. And I get dehydrated so easily. The more ater I drink the watery well u get the idea. I eat Imodium like candy. If I don't take them before eating out I never make it home without stopping along the way.

I appreciate UR thoughtful explanation. It puts a lot of this in place. U explained better than my dr.

i need to simply stay away from irritating foods for now. Doesn't leave much to eat..I have totally eliminated sugars and carbs, any oils, lettuce, any veggies like corn, peas...apples, pears the skins on them seem to be the culprit they come out the same way they go in.

Smoothies r ok as long as I mix a powder enzyme & yogurt  in and peal the skins off. It's ok sometimes other times not.

Thanks for UR time & help. It's not easy.. I am so sorry to hear u suffer from this too! It's nice to talk with someone who has the same issues does help me cope better. I've often thought about adult diapers. I do at home can't always make it to the throne in time.  Does this ever get better?         I can't continue this forever.

Thanks for sharing..

You're welcome hope4cure.

Yes, I agree that it is nice to have the forum.

I think what the doc said made sense. I guess just ride it through, knowing it will get better.

Best of luck with it! Let us know how you get on!!

Hi there Hope4cure.

I remember all the pains and being sick first thing in the morning with my ex partner. He went through hell!

He was always sitting on the toilet, in pain. Sometimes I had to bring him a hot water bottle! To ease his horrendous pain!

He found ice cream did the trick to ease his pain.

He had his gall bladder removed along with some stones, he was in a right state!

He was backwards and forwards to the hospital. Before they discovered it was his gall bladder causing him to be so unwell.

But he too had trouble with greasy foods, before his op. but what I can remember he was free from digestive pains after he had the op. I don't know why you are still having trouble. But apart from where they did his keyhole surgery, being tender and dressing it, he recovered quite well.

It didnt take him long to go back eating whatever he liked.

If you are not happy, get another second opinion if you are that worried.

God bless 😊
