Whenever I go to he gym or do some running, I have extreme after effects of Diarrhoea and awful stomach aches. I have felt sick since going to the gym at 7 today and can’t stop it. My stomach is churning and I have a lot of gas. Does anyone else have this after exercise and know how to help it?
Since IBS affects you this way, I would avoid strenuous exercise. Try milk for the nausea. The nausea can be brought on by the pain. I have very mild IBS and I find very light exercise like swimming and walking helps me. Maybe stick to walking instead.
Bananas or rice help to bind you up; if that doesn’t work, try codeine or Imodium. For stomach pain, try an antispasmodic like Buscopan and combine it with nurofen. You can also ask your doctor for an antispasmodic.
Try to avoid fizzy drinks and gassy foods like, broccoli, cabbage and brussels sprouts. Bicarbonate of soda can help with gas.
I have this sometimes, too. I always run in a fasted state, first thing in the morning - sometimes I have diarrhoea after, other times it's fine.
I feel like it's something to do with not fully eliminating all of my stool when I have my morning movement before running - I feel like it just sloshes around whilst running and then, when I'm back, I have very watery stool.
I can sympathise with you as you're not alone, but I don't have any answers, unfortunately.
I get this too. I make sure I exercise fasted and only have a very small meal after- if I eat a normal sized meal afterwards it goes straight through me. I find it isn't as bad with evening exercising for some reason but worse if I exercise in the morning.
Try making sure you do a good warm up and cool down to prevent blood rushing to and from your digestive system too quickly. You might have to resort to Imodium before a run if this doesn't work.
