Hi I'm Sally , I've had IBS for years but in the last few days it's got worse, abdominal pains on and off with on and off hot/cold flushes, constipation then diarrhea, yes I have depression, anxiety ,acid reflux ,asthma also a carer for my two adult kids, I'm trying to eat, but don't want to as it's either I'll get diarreah straight away, or really bad constipation where I can't poo at all, then when I do it comes out slushy and sometimes watery, I've been drinking water with a tiny pinch of salt /sugar and when I take paracetamol I get sharper pains, hot flushes, feel sick, dizzy, faint so I have to hold an ice pack on me it is horrendous, is this an infection or something else as I'm very concerned, please reply
Where you get treatment & what kind of treatment but I have no pain but mucus & indigestion plz reply
Sounds like an IBS flare up. It also sounds like paracetamol doesn’t agree with you since it is making the pain worse. Have you tried imodium for diarrhoea and lots of fruit fo rhe constipation? Maybe try a food diary or the low fodmap diet to see what foods ma ybe causing the diarrhoea. Try an antispasmodic like buscopan for the pain. That helps me. If that doesn’t work, ask your doctor for something else and explain about your reaction to paracetemol.
Dear Sally , I was diagnosed in my teens with ''a lazy bowel'' and told to eat more roughage and fresh vegetables. They exacerbated the problem of bloating , diarrhea or constipation. Terrible bouts of uncontrollable diarrhea and painful cramps when I was shopping etc etc. For me an attack began with a horrible pain around the rectum and when I was prescribed colofac this stopped the attack. However, it was only after I gave up bread completely, white brown or whatever was made with yeast that I lost all these symptoms. No doctor ever suggested I do it but I did, Test it out, give up for a month and see if your symptoms decrease. I tried bread again after a year without it, because I like bread and missed it, but!! several weeks later back came the problems so it is a no for me now. It is not a gluten allergy because I can eat biscuits or cake. Just no bread, no matter what colour it is. The symptoms are very scary I know but Colofac (there is a generic they will prescribe because it is cheaper but I buy Colofac from the chemist, just to have it in case) can relieve the symptoms and ward off the attack and breadless life has turned mine around
Sounds like IBS since colofac works.
Thanks Pippa, I will try these things you've suggested and get back to you on this😀👍✌
Hi Amandahc I've tried colofac before but unfortunately it didn't work for me, some bread does make things worse but I'm prepared to give it up if I have to, had to give up other things I like so one more isn't going to hurt thanks for this tip.😀👍✌
See your doctor about you bringing up mucus and having heart burn.✌
Just to say thank you to those that replied, went to the doctors and was told I have a IBS flare up due to my Anxiety also had a viral bug that's going around both the cough/cold/ chest infection kind and the sick , faint/ diarreah sinus headache kind, but being as my simptoms now are more IBS related I've been given Ispagula husk soluble fibre sachets to take, after I've eaten just mix with water and then take more water too, but I will get diarrhea but it will help with clearing my body out, was also said I could have peppermint oil tablets to take before I eat but can't take them as anyone who's allergic to aspirin can't take them. Anyone had either of these ?
👍
I can’t take peppermint remedies because it aggravates my GERD. I haven’t heard of it being a problem if you are allergic to aspirin though. Glad you got reassurance from your doctor and treatment.
