ICB00 TECNIS Eyhance IOL (Johnson & Johnson) Dysphotopsia

Hi everyone,

I am new here, my name is John I am 53 years old. I’d like to start a new discussion about the ICB00 Dysphotopsia.

I had refractive lens replacement surgery in both eyes on 22nd June 2023 in the UK (5x weeks ago). Since the surgery I can see the Edge of the IOL and Edge glare on both side - I think it is positive dsyphotopsia. Needless to say I feel sick and everyday is now a struggle. I have taken Pilocarpine but it had no effect.

Anyone here with those IOL who might have had a successful recovery ? Please I am desperate to hear some positive news.

Warmest Regards,
John

I have seen some information which suggests the insertion of a piggyback lens may improve dysphotopsia. In the UK you should have access to the Rayner Sulcoflex lens which is made for this purpose. You will need to find a surgeon that does this for advice on the probability of it working. I think the way this works is that the extra lens is in front of the existing IOL you have and can filter/screen the light coming in so it does not reflect off the edges of the existing IOL. But, you would have to check all of that out with a surgeon that specializes in this kind of surgery. The one upside of this approach is that at the same time it can correct any error in refraction that you may have from the first surgery, and thus improve your visual acuity. Google this for an article on it. I have seen other articles on this subject as well.

I had surgery early 2021, Eyhance in the left and ICB00 in the right. From day one i experienced Positive Dysphotopsia in both eyes, seeing edge of the iol and constant flickering in the corner of each eye, i was going mad and severely depressed.
I battled for many months trying to get my doctors to listen and understand what i was going through but they all just shrugged it off.
I had done research on piggyback iol’s and yes the Rayner Sulcoflex is the best lens to resolve these types of issues. It was quite a struggle to get my doctors on board (I found that they are very reluctant to do any additional surgery and always told me that everything i read on the internet is anecdotal)
Happy to say, it’s the best decision i made, got the Sulcoflex piggyback in both eyes and it’s made the world of difference, i was also able to sort out a refractive error from the original surgery. Even if you have no refractive error to resolve, they can order a plano lens, with no refractive powers. Unfortunately, i had to pay for them out of pocket as my medical scheme viewed these lenses as cosmetic enhancements.
