I have a type 1 chiari and Hydrocephalus. I will be having ICP monitoring for 48 hours on the July the 5th. If my pressure remains high I will be having a shunt fitted!
Just wondering if anyone here has had this monitoring? did you have it placed under a local or general anaesthetic?
Stating to feel a a bit stressed now.

I had ICP monitoring done last year and you can have it fitted both under local and general - I believe they are mostly fitted under local as it is a quick procedure and from what others have said it isn't too bad. I opted to have it done under general as the thought of hearing the drill freaked me out a bit but if I was to have it done again I would go for local I think after hearing others stories. General takes a lot longer to recover from I find.
I had the bolt removed under local though and it was fine - they just remove it on the ward and place a couple of stitches in there.
I hope the monitoring all goes well for you and gives the doctors the answers they need to move forward with your treatment. I also have a shunt (an LP shunt - from lumbar spine to abdo) for treatment of high intercranial pressure so understand what you're going through.

Hi I had mine done on 6th. How did u get on? I'm still waiting for results. Do you know what happening? How do you feel now? I still feel rough it's 2 weeks 2mora I had it done. Mine had lots of spikes in mine. Hope your doing okay.

I had mine on the 5th was fine fitting the bolt but was painfull aftetwards and for at least a week once removed. They found out my pressure was actually low so never fitted a shunt! (I am glad I asked them to do ICP before the operation) I had my stiches removed last week then got a infection but seems to be healing now.
I am going back to see the surgeon in Aug to see what happens next - he suspects either Low Pressure is causing the headaches or I have a CFS leak , I had a massive full head and spine MRI before leaving hospital.
