Idiopathic ulnar nerve shooting pains - negative nerve conductance and neck MRI

Hello all

​I have had increasing ulnar nerve symptoms for the last 3 years - as well as the tingling / numbness I get regular sharp intense electric shock type pains which are increasing in severity.  I have been on 1200mg gabapentin for the last year with no great reduction in pain,

​I had a negative nerve conductance tests but my surgeon still thought there was a 60/70 % chance that cubital tunnel release surgery would work.  Had the Op 18 months ago and it did not work.

​My surgeon has just discharged me as a further nerve conductance test has been negative and a neck MRI scan showed no compression - basically his advice is no surgical intervention is possible and nerve transposition is unlikely to work and is too risky and may make things worse,

​Both my surgeon and doctor have said that it is likely no cause will be found. I am back with my doctor looking at increased gabapentin dosage.  We will then try other drugs and if  no luck it will be referral to a pain management specialist.  

Has anybody been in this position and had something that worked?

Hello, I am sorry to hear all you are going through. I have had nerve pain in my arms for 3 years and neck pain for 2 years. I had pinched nerves due to herniated disc in my neck, I had the disk replaced, it only made everything worse. I had Physical Therapy and steroid injections shots. Last month I got a spinal cord stimulator put in except it was put higher up in my body towards the neck. I have achieved 80% pain relief in my arms. My neck still hurts because it's still healing ,hopefully that's all it is. Do your research on that ,maybe that will help you good luck

Thanks for your reply and I will look into what you suggest.  Sounds like you've been having a hard time - pleased to hear 80% success - good luck with having a go at the 20%
