As it takes 3-5 weeks to get into your system it usually takes a couple of weeks to get out. I know the withdrawal anxiety didn't hit me till about 2 weeks in. You really need to withdraw slowly to go honest or risk rebound anxiety.
I was on them 8 week and have been off them 3 week.
I stopped Cit and started on another med the day after. Not sure if the things I'm experiencing is Cit withdrawal or the new med kicking in xx
how long have you been on them
Hi you will start to feel light headed after 3-4 days it can get quite savere but slowly gets better over a couple of weeks.
Is there a reason why your coming off them?
Ive been on them a couple of months n dont feel like their doing anything apart from making me feel numb this is the 3rd lot of anti ds ive been on since june (1st was fluoxetine then sertraline and now cit) n to be honest i just wanna stop all meds.
Im not sure. Someone told me it is about two weeks but as i havn t tried coming off them cant really comment sorry.
Hi Anna,
As someone who spent 2 weeks in near hell, feeling like a monster because I decided to go cold turkey, I strongly advise you to check with your doctor over whether it would be appropriate in your case. I eventually went back on Citalopram as my doctor says I need to stay on for a while longer and it might help with my psychotherapy sessions as well.
the first few days of cold turkey were ok, I had these pleasant tingling sensations in my face and started to get my libido back. Unfortunately then all hell break loose and I became as irritable as I can remember. Imagine, I told myself while washing dishes that I would rather cut my finger off with a blunt instrument then wash dishes! That's not good and not normal.
if you're planning to come off, you probably need to wean yourself off slowly. Please check with your doctor
What are you experiencing? I want to replace Cit with Wellbutrin down the line
Im feeling better off them than on them at the moment but am wondering if im gunna hit a high before a real low
The short answer could be yes, depending on how long you were on them.
For the long answer, this is what I posted recently after the whole ordeal:

Hi what was the reason for stopping did u see your GP before stopping, bcoz myfriend stopped taking citaaalprom , then 6 weeks later she killed her self ,shhe left a note saying she is fade up of life, l miss her so much.
I was on them about 9/10 weeks
So you're in the same predicament as I was. Just be very careful
Why did u stop them?
Sorry haven't had chance to read the link u have sent will try in a bit but with a 3yo n a 19m old Alls a bit hectic!!
Same reason as you really, just wanted to stop all meds and go holistic. But even my psychotherapist has told me that given my history with recreational drugs, I need to be on these meds for a year at least to get my serotonin levels back in balance.
With 2 kids, I'd definitely recommend checking with a doctor before going cold turkey, it can play havoc with your brain
Hey anna
it would be better to wean off, cut in half at least.
It depends on how long you have been on them and the dosage you are on. I was on 10mg for 2 months when I was late on getting my prescription repeated. I was off citalopram for about 7 days and I really had no problems what so ever until the 4th day. I started to feel a bit dizzy, like when you drink too much and everything spins, however I was very much sober and I was able to tolerate it. The next 3 days the dizziness got worse, real bad. Any time I moved my head it was like little shocks were running through my head and down the back of my neck. Even moving my eyes had the same effect. It was very disorientating and tiring.
Any time I was awake and mobile (which was basically all the time), I felt like I couldn't make any spacial judgements. As soon as I got back on the tablets I quickly recovered and felt fine. Now I'm on 20mg a day and I find that if I even just forget to take one pill, that evening or the following morning I begin to feel the tingly, dizziness coming back.
Of course everyone is different, but I would really recommend that you continue taking them or that you speak to your doctor to have you weaned off them.
I have been on cit for 7 weeks now. Felt so much better last week . But last night wike at 1 30 am wet with sweat & anxious not sleep since still feeling pcicky. Is this normal & has anyone else felt the same please ?
