Illness Anxiety

Good afternoon everyone,

This is something I never thought id sign up to, but I'm needing your help!

I suffered chest pains approx two months ago now and attended A&E, to be kept in overnight and tests ran on me, all coming back perfectly normal.

I have been to my local GP well over ten times in the last two months all with this same pain in my chest.

They have also ran numerous tests all coming back completely normal, however this pain in my chest isn't subsiding at all.

I have been having bad twitches and having aches elsewhere in my body, which my doctor advised may be down to anxiety.

I cannot get out my head that something bad is going to happen to me by way of health, I'm struggling to attend my work due to this matter and I'm struggling to focus on anything else in my life other than this problem. All I do is sit at home and worry about myself all day.

The doctor has prescribed me some beta blockers, but I want to beat this problem without the use of tablets.

If anyone has any suggestions then please get in touch, anything would be appreciated.

Thanks

James

Take your tablet, if you dont you will never know if they are going to work

Heart/chest pains can be put down as Anxiety so your GP has checked you out and you need to accept your results. The problem is you cannot keep having many of these tests some can cause damage in their own right

You can try Mindfulness Relaxation Technique, that will help you relax and hopefully reduce your heart pains

Take your medication it may only be a one off

Hello,I know how you feel I’m going thru the same thing.Ive been dealing with for 7 months now it’s very stressful.Ive had a lot of test done and seen numerous amount of drs and it all points back to anxiety.Ive just been prescribed lexapro a few days ago. They’ve been tried to get me to take them but I refused because I didn’t think it was anxiety since all the results was normal I have no more options but that.Ive missed so much work because I’m scared to be on the road like that. All I can tell you is to believe what the dr’s are telling you and I find that prayer and reading my bible helps me.I hope this will help you

Thanks for the reply Bhabersham.

I too can't get over that this may be anxiety that im feeling. Must chest produces pain right around the breastbone, but I can't understand how anxiety can make you feel something like that.

If you touch yourself in the area that is sore and it is sore, is that still anxiety?

I think I'm going to have to try the tablets that i've been prescribed as I too are at a dead end with this now.

I feel like I'm just sitting waiting for something to happen to me, but with the checks coming back clear then i'm obviously in good health.

I understand where you are coming from. It’s hard for me to accept it myself. I have palpitations, pressure behind the bridge of my nose, pressure in my head, weak feelings, shaky feelings but I’ve had all the test done and they keep telling me nothing is wrong they are thinking I’m crazy but I’m not I know my body and it’s not right.

Yeah I'm also getting the palpitations, sweaty feeling and sore heads, along with other symptoms.

Cannot believe that something in your mind can give you these sort of problems, but im trying to accept it and will probably start with the tablets to see if they work, because if I don't try ill never know I suppose.

Yes take your meds they gave you Ive read a lot and people say those beta blockers work with the palpitations. I will most definitely try those

I am in the same boat and on the same medicine. I now sleep with my Bible and I'm ok with that. I've turned into a hypochondriac since I started having the chest pains. I'm working on it day by day.

I have had numerous.erous test as well. They said acid reflux, costochrontitis and think I have an ulcer. I still have the chest pain and it's been several months. I still go to work every day but I'm having a hard time with it as well. I was having panic attacks every day but I'm having less and less every day. I'm working on it. It's a process. I take Lexapro every night. Now I have a physical therapist that thinks I have musculoskeletal issues as well. I've lost about 30 pounds during this whole process. My chest, arms, and clavicles even hurt at times. I have so much tension. I would say just work on it day by day.

It’s a day to day thing for myself also.Ive found that reading the good word helps me and prayer because it’s a tuff situation when it seems like everyone thinks your going crazy because no dr can find anything wrong with me my local er dr told me to see a psychologist.

Thanks for your reply Kim.

I’m trying my best to work on it day by day, but it’s very difficult.

I’ve only been to work for 3 weeks out of the last 9, I just can’t cope at work and my head is all over the place.

The doctor has prescribed me propranolol, but I’m nervous to take them incase I have any side effects.

I can be sitting perfectly at peace for a while then all of a sudden I get this dull pain in my chest and then it may get worse or simply disappear.

I get twitches in various places in my body and also the odd random ache.

I should probably try the propranolol but I’m almost too scared to take them

Thanks for your reply BOB.

I don't believe im having any heart pains, I think the pains are in fact coming from my Chest, but im not sure if its anxiety or not, the doctors aren't 100% sure either, I think that is what is giving me this anxiety.

What is this mindfulness relaxation technique you are speaking about?

James

Mindfulness is a Relaxation Technique. You will find an explanation on site or your GP may have an explanation at our Surgery I understand the nurse has an explanation of the technique. Your GP should be able to get an explanation of the technique for you or look on ebay books or Amazon Books

I have pain in my sternum area and pain around it. It hurts to touch it. They originally said acid reflux and then another doctor said costochrontitis which is inflammation around the joint areas. I also have rib pain and it hurts to touch those too. My pain comes and goes. Yesterday I was told by a physical therapist that it's musculoskeletal because of the way I sit and my posture at my desk at work. I'm an administrative assistant and my job is very stressful. The pain always seems to be worse at work. I have had several EKGs a credit scan with contrast, a chest x ray, and the stress test on the treadmill with two more EKGs. They say it's not my heart either but I still wonder and worry. I have other symptoms too and panic attacks. I'm on Lexapro. It's been a couple of months and I'm on acid reflux meds, doc thinks I have an certain too. They also did an ultrasound of my abdominal organs and everything was good. I have GI appointments and I am having an MRI of my head done as soon as they schedule it. The chest pains altered when they started. I always had panic attacks but they made me worry about everything even the color of my urine. I totally get where you're coming from.

I asked my doctor if she thought I was crazy she said no you just have problems but we will figure this out. I really like her. She's an internal medicine clinic and I have gotten more responsible from her trying to figure things out than I ever have at any other clinic. Although I'm sure she would like me to see a psychologist also and it has been suggested by a few people.

I read that Beta blockers can be used for anxiety but they are usually for the heart right? I wonder what the difference is between those and regular anxiety meds

Kim, I was also advised firstly acid reflux then chostrochonditis, but the meds they gave me did absolutely nothing to help. Ive had several ECG's all coming back fine and also numerous blood test on various things all fine. My pain comes and goes in waves, so I can only imagine this must be anxiety from the original episode I had back a couple a months ago and I haven't been able to defeat it.

Im going to continue to defeat this one way or another and need to stop getting down about it!

They gave me Omeprazole and then pantoprozole and I know I do have acid reflux because I've had the acid in my throat before. I didn't have a med for the costochrontitis except ibuprofen and then my stomach was so messed up and I had bilirubin in my urine so doc suspected an ulcer that I had made bleed. That's why all the different diagnosis. I still have the pain. I even have worse pain while stressed which also points to anxiety for me but I have other stuff going on too. Mine comes and goes too. Funny I was at work this afternoon sitting at my desk and had pains during a lit of the afternoon. I get off work pick up my kids then I go to the grocery store, come home clean my house, bag up all the trash and dirty laundry, vaccuum and I have no pains at all after all of that. My nights are usually pain free unless I turn the wrong way and then I adjust and feel better. Do you have any similarities with that?

I've been exactly like you since September also had numorus ecgs and blood tests all clear gp says it's anxiety she's put me on sertraline and propranolol which are beta blockers still having pains but slowly trying not to panic it's hard but gradually getting easier

Did they say why they are using beta blockers?
