I just was wondering when is it too much? I walk with a can now and I limp a lot. I went food shopping yesterday and by the end of the trip I was limping more and had pain in groin and thigh. Should I be bending yet? I have so many questions and got very little information on my healing process and progress I should be making!!!
Sounds like too much. I did read it is better to walk 2 canes/sticks limp free than to walk with one and a limp. How many weeks are you? I have entered week 7 and still use 2 when out
no bending for 6 weeks - your body will tell you when you are doing too much, just make sure you listen to it!!
Sounds like you are trying to do far too much too soon! You shouldn't be bending at all unless you are extending your operated leg behind you.
I am 12 weeks post op & still limp sometimes. You are not allowing your body to heal, at 3 weeks post op I had not left the house!
do you have any physio sessions coming up? If not I would ask your GP to refer you. It doesn't sound as if you gave been given enough information about the recovery process.
please ask on this forum if you need to know anything as we have all been there.
Hi maryann - welcome to this wonderful forum - I am 7 weeks post-op, still limping and using my walker outside, no aid inside -
At 3 weeks I only left the house for a short walk - I went grocery shoppin with a friend on week 4 - she got my stuff and put it in the shopping cart...
you had major surgery and it takes time, a lot oi time I found out, to heal ...
keep coming back here - there is no better place for practical advice, sharing and support .... take it easy girl .... Big hug
I totally agree with Val on this one. No bending. How did you do grocery shopping without bending? There is no way I would have been able to grocery shop at 3 weeks. At 5 weeks maybe.
Hi
I am 3 weeks post op and using one crutch in the house a lot of the time, but 2 crutches when outside. I went out to a social function last night and knew about it today as had groin pain, etc and felt really tired, but it was a charity do, so well worth the effort.
I know I am only halfway to the magic 6 weeks stage but am getting a bit worried about driving again, just hope I can press the pedals at 6 weeks lol.
I am sleeping a bit better aswell (must be getting used to sleeping on my back), although I do have backache in the morning, which quickly disappears once I am moving about.
I did not get physio, just a sheet with stick men on with a few exercised on, which I have been doing.
I would say take things a bit more slowly, I wouldn't attempt to do shopping or carry shopping as you are putting strain on the side you are carrying with.
Take care
Regards
Nadine
Hi
My consultant said that if you are limping it's because your muscles are not strong enought after the operation. He gave me some more physio and told me to use a stick if I started to limp as it does not aid healing.
