Im 5 weeks out of surgery, RHR, and my new pt massaged off some scab, red welts came up. Damage?

Did it open up and/bleed or just get red and puffy? If it’s the latter, probably just inflamed it from massaging the area.

Have you spoken to the PT about this reaction? I would set-up appointment with your primary care physician and and/or your dermatologist. It sounds like an irritation or inflammation like hives, but to be on the safe side, I’d definitely have a physician see it as soon as possible.

hi, my wound got inflamed around week 5 and started to weep around week 9, after swobs confirmed no infection , my surgeon said i was allergic to the internal stitches because around week 5 they start dissolving, he says once they have dissolved my wound would be fine and it was. perhaps you are the same

Hi,
Yes, a similar thing happened to me at week 5. The area around my wound became very itchy and small pimples appeared that then developed into large area of inflammed skin. I was told it was likely to be an allergic reaction to something and was prescribed antihistamines to help with the itching. However, the rash didn’t clear up, so after a week and a half I was prescribed a steroid cream, which has appeared to resolved the problem.

Thank you Mathew! No bleeding but red puffy like longish welts alongside the incision. What s weird is they ve been disappearing at times but then they come back. So yes inflamed but wonder if it is partly from allergy as someone below suggested. Guess Ill keep icing and watch it until I see doc next month. My pt never saw a reaction like that. Thanks again.

Yes. pt never saw samoethong like that. Finny thing, its been disappearing and coming back. Will show doc in few weeks. Surgeon felt wasnt harmful on phone. Thank you.

This sheds a lot of light because these wormlike mosquito bite looking welts tend to disappear, and then they re back again. My timing is week 5 and half, so hopefully they will go away as yours . Thank you so much for your thoughts.

Thank you Claire. Another validation for inflammation from allergy. I was thinking that since it disappears at times and then comrs back. Something I cant see is fueling it. Now I have more info to ask Dr when see him in a month. It doesnt really itch. It s a little irritating but your reply makes me calmer and closer to tesolve it. Isnt it weird it goes away then comes back?
