I'm anxious and worried

As i live on 3rd floor flat with no lift I am worried how I can manage to go up 3flight of steps three days after surgery.

can anyone advise me if there is a rehab centre who caters for patients like me??

Don't know where you are but they wont let you out of hospital until you can do their stairs on your crutches.....It was one thing I was worried about but as long as you take it slowly its fine! I found getting in and out of the car coming home after 3 days the hardest....its all uphill from there.....I'm 1000% fine now..had mine done in Feb.....best thing bar none!!

You must bring this up at pre op session which is thorough. Will depend on how good yr outcome is. Steps gd exercise at the beginning and not as bad as you expect. 3 flights a lot and you'll need frequent pauses and will have yr arm crutches so v awkward and you must not carry stuff risking a fall. I'm sure they will assess you for a few nights in half way arrangement. But if you do well and can go home I'd be sure to have someone with you. You won't be left high n dry be positive for great outcome. Make proper plans as it's an 8 week period minimum before you get independent.

I do not know where you are, I am in the US, but there are rehabilitation places one can be discharged to straight from the hospital where one can stay until they can return to their home situations.  On the brighter side, after you heal you will surely get a whole lot of exercise which will be wonderful for you!

Wishing you the very best!

It is an issue you must discuss with the hospital and/or doctor when you have your pre-op assessment. (Assuming you havent had it yet)

Because you dont say where you are living, its possible you are in the USA where the system is different but, in the UK, the hospitals are very understanding about this kind of problem and will help you.

Also, they will not let you go home on your own unless you can handle stairs on crutches.

So, you must ask and make your position clear. But dont worry: stairs are really not as hard as they appear!

Dont worry the hospital wont let you out until they and you are comfortable to do the stairs. you'll use your crutches also if you have rails on each sides of the steps you'll  fine i have to use the steps also it's part of the excises. I had surgery in April and am getting on very well now.
