Hi everyone. It all started 2 and a half weeks ago when I experienced an episode of tachycardia. I went to the hospital and they did a blood, thyroid, and urine test. They found nothing and sent me home. Since then, I’ve been experiencing dizziness, pain in my chest, back, and joints, and general pressure in my sinus/forehead area. I’ve been to the doctor 3 times in the past 2 weeks and they’ve said it’s anxiety each time. Even though it’s more beneficial for me to believe them, I can’t shake the feeling that I have something seriously wrong with me, namely lung cancer that has metastasized to my bones and brain. I’m terrified. I’m going to the cardiologist tomorrow for a follow up because of my hospital visit, but I generally just feel awful. Anything to ease my worries?
i’m sorry you are going through this and I know how scary it must be.
One of the most common signs of severe anxiety is what you just said. you were to the doctor three times, they did lab work that came out normal however you still think you have a serious illness.
I have read numerous posts on this site where people would say I’m convinced I have a serious illness even know everything checked out OK at the doctors. that is anxiety talking.
with anxiety also comes fear, doubt, negative thoughts, overthinking and worry about the future.
That is an example of emotional reasoning versus evidenced-based reasoning. When we say we have convinced ourselves we have a disease that is pure emotion talking and it is baseless. Not based on fact.
Evidence based reasoning is based on fact such as normal blood work. If you had cancer, it would have shown up in the blood work that was out of the range of normal.
another fact is that all of your symptoms are common with anxiety. pain anywhere, head pressure, rapid heart rate, joint pain, dizziness, all common with anxiety plus there are hundreds more.
Here is another example of emotional reasoning …why do you think you may have lung cancer? Are you a smoker? If so you know that it takes quite a while to develop lung cancer. If you’re not a smoker, the fact is that the odds of getting lung cancer especially if you are Young is extremely low. you are assuming you have lung cancer but there’s no facts to back it up.
FEAR stands for false evidence appearing real. That is most likely what is going on with you. You are allowing fear to take over your thinking! 99.9% of the time the things we worry about never happened.
Think for a bit about what may be going on in your life that is causing you anxiety. work? School? Family? Relationships? Something is most likely going on.
People get all kinds of aches and pains and headaches, dizziness, etc. and way more often than not it’s nothing serious.
Take it easy. At some point you have to believe the testing is accurate and that you are OK. Think about getting some counseling for anxiety. it really helps to talk to somebody who can help you manage it. Hope you feel better soon take care
