Im having a operation soon for my hallux valgus nut i want to know how long it will take?

Hi Jadee.  I am 8 weeks post op. After 2 weeks the stitches come. I came off my crutches on Tuesday and have started walking very short distances, albeit with a limp. My foot is still very swollen and realistically will be for a while yet, so no dancing for me this christmas!   The key is rest, ice packs and elevation of the foot for the first two weeks.  It's a long haul, but well worth it.

I had surgery this morning and I think the actual operation took about an hour, my surgery was at 7:00 and I left there about 9:15.

Will depend on what procedure that you are having. I had Minimally invasive surgery which means quicker recovery. I was in theatre for about 2 hours and came home the next day. Could have come home that day but I live about 2 hours away from where I had the op done. Dressings removed after one week and small dressings put on. Wore special post op shoes which keep forefoot off the ground. I had disposable stitches.  First 2 weeks, feet up for 50 mins per hour. After 6 weeks out of special shoes. Now 8 weeks post op. Feet are still swollen and have just managed to begin to wear my proper walking shoes. Hope that helps
